Dennis1971 Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 None in my local shop but they look cool. Anyone had experience with them. I played a squier VM tele bass today and the neck was great but I wasn't sure if the sound was a bit one trick pony. (vhttp://www.fender.com/en-GB/basses/precision-bass/vintage-modified-precision-bass-tb-maple-fingerboard-3-color-sunburst/) Hence the question in the title. Thanks Quote
bh2 Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 Played the Butterscotch one at my LMC... blew me away... amazing. Quote
EssentialTension Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 The Classic Vibes are all excellent value for money. Quote
ash Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 I have one used it as a backup for my Fender 50s MIJ the quality is superb and the necks are spot on, mines for sale on here now as the project I was using it for has finished. All the CV stuff is great value for money, I wish they'd been around when I started playing. Quote
Annoying Twit Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 I tried one of these. I know it's a bass, but it was just too bassy for me. I found it a bit to be the bass equivalent of eating 80% dark chocolate. Just too much of a good thing. Quote
Dazed Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 How do these compare to a later precision tonally? Like the look but not sure if they lose out with the smaller pup? Quote
Cat Burrito Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 Well I bought one to use as a back up bass and it now appears to be replacing my main Fender. Yeah, bassy sounding but I wanted that old school tone. Killer neck, well balanced, a good player. I was planning to upgrade the pickup but this was before I heard it - and it doesn't need any mods. As you can see I added the ashtrays, flipped the thumbrest and pickguard but all purely cosmetic changes. Just a really cool bass. Will it be a suitable bass for dub reggae with heavy flats? Quote

Dennis1971 Posted December 8, 2013 Author Posted December 8, 2013 Are these as versatile as a classic vibe '60 model, with the split pick up? Might be joining a band that plays indie-rock, this will be the only bass for a while. Quote
Cat Burrito Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 I don't think there is a lot in it. I find the variation in the vol / tone knob is there but it definitely favours old school tone. I wouldn't hesitate to 1) have it as my only electric bass or 2) use it in an Indie band personally but we're all different. Quote

With roundwounds it can be very bright and has a surprisingly good slap tone! I have flats on it at the moment and I really like this bass. I'm considering putting a stingray preamp in there 'though, I am used to them and I miss the controls. Quote

Green Alsatian Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Here's a demo of one being played in a mixture of finger and slap style with rounds: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gb2mJrFm-qc Quote
