Price is always too good to be true until the auction finishes, plus it's a refin, plus even given that there's no clear evidence that it is what the seller says it is. I'm not saying it isn't, just that this is a real case of buyer beware, without some evidence it's just a piece of wood with some paint on it

^ I'm thinking exactly the same as you guys ;) Definitely a few alarm bells ringing.

While I'm here, what you think of this one:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/390717718808

...? It looks legit to my untrained eyes - by then I don't know much! I'm thinking about starting a parts-build project next year and wondering whether this would be a good purchase - or not.

Let me know what you think.

No,

Firstly our US cousins get very sweaty about vintage Fenders and they often attract higher prices there than here. Second, courier fees, VAT and import duty will be high, third you have no idea if it's legit, fourth if it's not legit or crap you have a nightmare returning it (US retail law varies from state to state and this can effects your rights even with an eBay transaction), and last it's a horrible refin anyway?

Get Bas Doc to make you a nice ash precision body for half the price.

^ Cheers dude, that's the kind of straight talking common sense I needed to hear!

I'm currently GAS-ing for a '74 body for no other reason than it's the year of my birth and I like the idea of building a bass around a body as old as I am. What I might do instead is try sourcing some wood from that year and take it to a luthier (I know a good guy in Liverpool - Paul at 13 Guitar Co) and have a body made to spec.

Hmmm. That's got me thinking... ;)

I'm very suspicious of all Fender components on eBay as so few of them are verifiable unless by an expert, and you don't normally get the option of an expert appraisal - certainly in the flesh - before you buy.

I'm highly suspicious of this. Have you seen the sellers other items? Pretty much parting out the bass minus the neck for far less than it would be worth whole. 99p start on everything! Oh and a '74 Precision for under £500 to boot...

Yeah I noticed that 74 Precision! The starting price on that was also 99p with no reserve. All very fishy... Either that or the seller is drunk :)
