Just taken delivery of a TC Electronic polytune, acquired through the for sale section of the forum. Unfortunately it doesn't work using battery power! I've tried two brand new 9v pro cell batteries and its dead as a dodo when the jack is inserted - doesn't even light up :(. After a few minutes, the battery gets almost too hot to touch.
It works perfectly well with a Boss 9v psu.

The seller is being thoroughly decent and I'm sending it back for a refund, but I wondered whether any of the knowledgeable chaps on here could offer an insight on what the problem might be?

Thanks in advance

Andy

I hear those have a really transparent sound ;-)
Sorry, can't help, but hopefully the seller is working with you on this?

The DC socket is switched when a plug is inserted into it.

If the unit doesn't work on batteries and the batteries overheat, my best guess is that the DC socket is faulty and applying a short circuit across the batteries.

I think you're probably right. I believe it's now powered by someone's pedal board,
