Bilbo
Rainbow Rising. Just spotified it and had forgotten how good it is. Marvellous stuff!
waldflote8
Absolutely,.. I listened to this one a few weeks back for the first time in years and thought the same. Love the guitar solo in 'Stargazer'
Dr.Dave
The first vinyl LP of the gendre that I bought. It was worth it just for the sleeve ! I embroided that sleeve on the back of my denim jacket and slept on Stafford station in the freezing cold to see Rainbow as a result of that purchase. All very primitive to today's school leavers who likely think ' catching cold ' is a playstation game but I wouldn't have missed it. 'High noon , Oh I'd sell myself for water....' makes me bleary eyed just thinking about it.
franzbassist
A truly fantastic album. Cozy Powell at his thunderous best too.

Adrenochrome
From that era - I think you're right! But also agree with thebigyin about other good stuff, Halford's vocal on Victim Of Changes is unreal!
Paul S
Well, its good. The best? Not for me. A bit poppy, I'd say. Depends what you like.
Bilbo
Machine Head!! Another forgotten gem!! And 'Burn' (the title track is jaw-droppingly good)
Clarky
Bilbo, are you revving up for a GOD I LOVE 70'S HEAVY ROCK thread? FWIW, the young metal-head Clarky's favorite album of said genre was Sad Wings of Destiny by Judas Priest but I do enjoy Light in the Black and Stargazer (rest of album not so good IMHO)
Happy Jack
Oi you! Don't you go claiming SWOD for the bloody metallists ... back in them days, we called that stuff Heavy Rock. Anyway, SWOD can't be metal because it's one of my favourite albums and I bloody hate metal.

artisan
Good call Bilbo. Infact any of the first three Rainbow albums would qualify for me.

Happy Jack
Machine Head a "forgotten gem"? I'm sorry Bilbo, but only a jazzer could come out with something like that! No one who had any interest in music during the 70s can possible have forgotten Machine Head.

paul_5
Ooh, High Voltage by AC/DC would be in my top 3, but it's hard to pick a winner. Are Iron Maiden heavy rock or NWOBHM? I'm confused...
Bilbo
I'd forgotten it. Most of us around at the time now have earry on-set Alz.... what was I saying? I was fond of Judas Priest's 'Unleashed in the East' ('Green Manalishi'!!)
Bilbo
Maiden are NWOBHM - I know because I was there..... http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/No_Quarter/10007

[/quote] Excellent - I also liked their (brave for a metal/rock band) Joan Baez cover, Diamonds and Rust on the accompanying vinyl EP to Unleashed in the East I also happened to see them at the Apollo on the UK leg of that door and got front row seats. I touched Rob's boot. Please psycho-analyse that

KiOgon
Well if you're not considering Pink Floyd, ('cos they're not heavy ) Made in Japan has always been the best of Deep Purple IMO. Bilbo
Made in Japan was my first experience of Deep Purple and Heavy Rock in general and it was a revelation! Strangely, though, I never bought that LP!!
