spinynorman
This looks serious, but I'm thinking, tuned up an octave with thin strings, doesn't that make it a 4-string guitar? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/301038676253 Although, 4 strings, so that makes it really simple to play, just like a bass. Maybe I'm tempted.
SlapbassSteve
Piccolo basses can sound great! Stanley Clarke and Brian Bromberg both play them occasionally... it does the lead melody on this for an idea of the sound; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oO2_eRos8oc
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE
Just wondering; if i took off the main 4 strings on my 8 string bass, and left the 4 thin ones on there, is that piccolo?
BigRedX
IMO it depends on the scale length whether it counts as a 4-string guitar or a piccolo bass. A piccolo bass needs to have a baas guitar type scale length. Anything under 28" scale is definitely a 4-string guitar. Bassassin
From the ad:
An electric piccolo bass is similar to a four-stringed electric bass, but is usually tuned one octave higher. The lowest note of a piccolo bass usually being equal to the E found on the seventh fret of the A string of a standard bass.
So - it's a four-string guitar, then. Jon.
