blablas
Sanded the outer contour and routed the round-over. During the round-over routing one tear out happened, it's already fixed. Edited August 11, 2017 by blablas

Grangur
Looking cool. What tools do you use for the shaping? I've got similar job to do on one. I'm new to doing this but I'm planning on using a Dremel with a sanding drum bit.
blablas
A Shinto rasp for taking of the bulk of material and files and sandpaper after that to get to the final shape and finish I want.
blablas
Not much progress the last couple of weeks, I haven't had the urge or made the time to do something. Resawed the top for the headstock and glued the two halves book-matching together. Rough sawed the headstock. blablas
Finally decided which kinds of wood I'm going to use for the neck. I'm going for extremely simple this time, one center birch plywood piece with two wenge sides. The fingerboard will bring all the sensation, it will be made of snakewood. blablas
Glued together the pieces of wood for the neck. Prepared the neck side of the scarf joint for gluing, I still need to level the backside of the headstock before I can glue them together. blablas
Built up and adjusted my setup to level the neck and route the truss rod grooves, ready to begin. An hour later, finished. Edited August 11, 2017 by blablas
blablas
Finished the truss rod groove ends at the the headstock side of the neck. A small alignment error occurred between the center line of the neck and the truss rod grooves, the headstock veneer is also not optimal aligned but has a deviation in the other direction , which means the deviation adds up. In total it's only 2 millimeters off center, I think it's more important that the the truss rod covers are properly aligned with the headstock veneer and decided for a off-center solution. Once the fingerboard is in place no one will see it, and because I went for a double truss rod the exact center alignment for these two is also not that critical. blablas
I know of even more small mistakes I haven't shown here. Once everything is finished I will be satisfied with the end result and don't care about these kind of errors, they only bother me a little bit during the building process. Mistakes just happen and add a nice challenge to solve them, if all went exactly as planned these kind of builds would be boring to do for me. blablas
Put the truss rods in place and glued on the fingerboard. SubsonicSimpleton
The nut slot looks quite narrow, what material are you going to use for the nut?
blablas
The slot is 2 millimeters wide, I'm using brass for the nut. I have used this with the last couple of builds I did and and it works okay. Edited May 2, 2014 by blablas
blablas
Headstock ready to be sawed. And done. And a more detailed shot of the headstock/fingerboard transition. Edited August 11, 2017 by blablas
