Well.. This was another fun DIY project to do, I'm very satisfied with the end result, it looks and plays fantastic. On with the next project, but first I'm going to enjoy this one. You'll notice it when I've got the urge again to toy around with some rough lumber. Edited August 11, 2017 by blablas

humapuma
That, sir, is absolutely lovely! You must be a pretty advanced player to use a 7 and I can only imagine the satisfaction you must get in playing something of such high quality you've designed and built yourself. Something very few of us probably will experience.
blablas
I'm a more advanced builder than player.
humapuma
Maybe, but you're such a good builder that still leaves plenty of room for awesomeness!
BruceBass3901
The finish on that bass is truly a wonder to behold. Love how the Danish oil brought the grain to life and added so much depth and character. Have you detailed how you apply it in any of your other threads? I would love to know how you get it so even doing the back and then the front without getting drips soaking over the edge. Again, a beautiful instrument
blablas
Applying Danish oil is simplicity itself. step 1: You need to sand everything up to grain 600. step 2: Apply a thin coat of Danish oil with a paper towel, wait five minutes and rub out the oil with a clean paper towel. step 3: Wait 4 hours for the oil to dry. For each successive coat repeat step 2 and 3. Depending on the wood four to five coats should be enough to reach the finish I've got. blablas
Just for fun. Every once in a while people ask me if I do guitar building for a living, well actually I don't, this is what I do for a living. Designing, developing and fabricating parts and complete measurement setups at the physics department of the Leiden University. This part was machined from a solid block of aluminum, if I can do this, building a bass guitar is not that difficult. sprocketflup
That depends I guess, if that's meant to be a sink plug, then its crap
blablas
It might be crap as a sink plug, it still needs to be made.

blablas
Or be killed myself. ..............................................But in all seriousness. It's a dummy magnetic shield, this thing will be made out of a special metal alloy at a later date and it's purpose will be to shield the sample that is inside it from magnetic forces. For the time being we decided to go with an aluminum version to test all the things that need to be attached to it and see if the principle works. This part will be mounted in a ultra high vacuum chamber, it is going to be used inside this setup. This magnetic shield is not yet a necessity by the way, at the moment we already hold the world record as far as resolution and quality of the images generated goes, the shield that is in use at the moment is also made of aluminum. HowieBass
Ah, I'd wondered about it being part of some device requiring a vacuum, with it being so chunky
alittlebitrobot
wow wow wow Amazing stuff. And it looks like you could probably even make your own hardware. Seriously impressive.
