Zoom Q3HD used as a mic in Reaper?

Hi all

I want to use my Zoom to do a quick multi track for my daughter's school project (guitar/vocal/drums/bass). Is this possible? Can I set up the Zoom as a mic and record straight into Reaper with it?

Yes. Click the menu button, scroll over to 'Camera' and click. Select off and then return to main screen by pressing 'Menu' twice. That sets it up to record sound only. Take a line out to your computer and once it is switched on it is a live mic. You could just record on the Q3 and copy across from the SD card as well.

Thanks! I knew how to set up for mic only, but wasn't sure about hooking up to PC. Where does the line out from the Q3 go on the PC?

I'd have thought most PCs would have a 'mic in' somewhere on the back. My HP certainly has.

So I have a 3.5mm - 3.5mm jack to jack connected to Line Out on the Q3 and the mic input on the laptop. How do I set up Reaper to see the Q3?

OPtions , preferences and choose audio / device , you should then get to choose the input/output devices you wish to use , click OK at the bottom of the pop up and way to go

Yes, thanks, got all that, but not sure which. Choices are:

WDM Kernel Streaming
Direct Sound
WaveOut
ASIO
Dummy Audio
WASAPI

I dont know which matters to be honest , on mine I think I can use direct sound , waveout and asio4all , but as long as the inputs are pointed at the sound card , ie realteck audio input , or primary sound capture I think worked aswell , it use the mic in line IIRC .

if you are connecting to the laptop via 3.5mm rather than usb, it will be the native sound driver of the input you are going into, if you can work out what that is, you should be away.

Thanks guys! Does that mean I could use the inbuilt USB in the Q3 instead, and somehow prevent it opening the bundled Handyshare software?

You could certainly try it , if it shows up in the same list as we were discussing then you should be able to specify it as an input .

You can with an H2 - but USB interface/mic is not a feature of theQ3,unfortunately.....
