Oscar South
Came across some old jamming recordings I made with a friend and my brother a long while back and then put onto soundclick a little less long back just now, was quite interesting listening to them. I think we'd played for a few years before this but not really recorded anything or jammed together much yet. Apart from questionable ability at the instruments (spot the fill where I'm just guessing notes and hoping they work ) and terrible recording quality I think they don't sound too terrible. These are just 2 parts out of a much longer recording, but thats been lost by now. Anyway heres the link http://www.soundclick.com/oscarsouth. Any of you got any really old recordings kicking about?
paul, the
I have some ancient, awfully played Chili covers somewhere. Hopefully I'll find them sometime. I must have put them on a CD.
WarPig
got some green day we covered and recorded, but we vowed never to play that CD again.

jakenewmanbass
I was on a TV programme at the ripe old age of twelve playing some song to back the school choir. I don't know if anyone has a copy of it.
Bassassin
Somewhere, I should have a cassette of my first original band's one & only local radio session - from 1981! At least I hope I've still got it! Jon.

BigRedX
My first band pretty much only did recording as we didn't have enough gear to play live. We got involved with the DIY cassette scene in 1979 and as a result built up quite a reputation in those circles. Consequently there is now a compilation CD of recordings made between 1978 and 1983 available from Chicago's Hyped To Death Records. ianrunci
Think the earliest record of me plaing that I have that remains is a demo our punk band did in 1979 at a studio i Didsbury Manchester. Its got three tracks on it. The bass player from that band is dead now as is the studio engineer that recorded it. The tapes a bit warbly but still plays
ahpook
ooh...it's prolly some racket i made back in 1987, in a jesus and mary chain-style band. we used the mission's drum machine for the demo iirc. i've got a tape somewhere with it on...i really must get round to digitising it soon. karlbbb
Found two recordings from a 6.2 track demo we did. http://www.purevolume.com/jeanisdead The whole band was recorded "live" with just two condenser mics hung in a room we played in, then vocals done over the top. The whole thing took an hour.

waynepunkdude
Haha yeah i can't believe how bad we sounded then He had ripped the strap pin out of the side he put it back in but it only lasted 2 more songs then he had to borrow the most embarrassing guitar ever, a Tom Delonge Strat
Chris2112
The earliest record is me playing is probably a cassette I made of me, my brother and a friend of mine playing together. Me on my old Ibanez BTB405QM, my brother on his Epiphone Les Paul (he now swears he'll never touch another Les Paul because they're so poor) and a friend playing an awesome Takamine acoustic. It was all really naff instrumental stuff, for the most part. Songs by the Shadows, Gary Moore, Hotel California, Knights in White Satin and whatnot. But we also did a few cool tunes. Bad Moon Rising, a few Beatles numbers, Ein Kleine Nacht Musik, In the Hall Of The Mountain King. Despite the crapiness of some of the source material, I was really impressed when I listened to the tape last year. Very tight musically because we practiced it so much, and despite the fact we recorded it on a 4 track with a built in mic, the tones on the tape were awesome. There was also some free jamming on there, and the tape was rolling while we warmed up, so you can hear us all doing different things, playing different licks from what we were into at the time. A really good listen, I sadly lost the tape, and the one live performance we did (at a Shadows club, no less!) wasn't recorded. Shame, because I took my Kubicki to it! s_u_y_*
Basically, I did some recordings for a guy who used to go to my martial art class at a proper recording studio in Old Street. Unfortunately, before I could get a copy my phone got stolen with his number. Not having any other way to contact him, they're probably lying in a box somewhere or worse. And I never listened to them. I wish I could remember his last name so in case he's on Facebook. Edited July 1, 2008 by s_u_y_*

FJ1200
Got a hideous old C60 of my first band jamming in a church hall in the mid-70's. Awful playing (ALL of us but especially me), awful acoustics and awful recording but it gives my kids hysterics! I'd been playing about 3 days and had absolutely no idea what I was supposed to be doing! Not much has changed then!
johnnylager
Some appalling tape of a jam band we got together to record (in me folks house - they were in) an 'Evil Dead' inspired tune, 'Raped By a Tree', with the thought provoking lyrics of 'Gotta, gotta, gotta, gotta, gotta get away 'Gonna, gonna, gonna, gonna get raped by a tree' I remember this was my first foray into the wonderful world of effects, with whatever the guitarist (who was in fact a bass player) brought with him all plugged in and turned up full. I only remember fuzz & wah and playing whatever parts of Metallica's 'Anaethesia - Pulling Teeth' I could. Loudly. And not feeling embarrassed in front of me folks. Must find it...
