blinddrew
I thought there was already a thread running about clip-on tuners but I couldn't find it so... The battery was running out in my clip-on tuner when I was in the pub last monday so I asked a mate if I could borrow his briefly. What a revelation. I've been using one of these: but to get it to register on the lower strings I've been needing to use the harmonic. The one I borrowed was one of these: A Snark SN2. It works perfectly. Good clear consistent signal with no need to move to harmonics. Even works well in a noisy environment. Important to know that there are two models - the SN1 is designed for guitars, the SN2 has an extended register and a built in microphone and is the one you want for a double bass. Can't recommend it enough. Edited December 15, 2013 by blinddrew
TheRev
I've got a Snark bass model. Probably the best clip on tuner available. It's permanently attached to the bass leg of my bridge.
OldG
A further bonus...the battery life in our Snark is far better than the other clip on's we tried.

Clarky
I use that Snark model too, very nifty tuner although occasioally I do have to hit the harmonic on the E string to tune my DB
ambient
I got an intellitouch PT10, it cost about £10 from Amazon. I believe Michael Manring uses them, he has some very weird tunings, so if it's good enough for him . Tracks my low B extremely well. Also changes colour to green when you're in tune. sarah thomas
Not a clip on, more of a lie down on - I like the Cleartune app. Just put the phone down on the bridge and you're away. https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/cleartune-chromatic-tuner/id286799607

Marc S
I've got a Snark tuner too, It's really good, and well priced, It works superbly at home but I do find it picks up other sounds, and isn't quite so easy to tune a DB in a pub environment, where guitars and vocals are going on in the background This is with it switched to the vibration setting too... This may be partly due to my pickup system having a mic of course..... EDIT: At my last gig on saturday, I took along another tuner, and connected it to the Tuner output of my Markbass amp This suffered from other noises going on too Again, must be down to having a mic as part of the pickup In future gigs, I'm going to try tuning with the output from the mic turned down to zero Edited December 17, 2013 by Marc S
randythoades
I also use the Snark tuner on both my electric and EUB. Works great and battery seems to last and last. Very accurate and pretty fast to latch on but mine also doesn't like lots of loud ambient noise, normal conversation buzz is fine but it gets confused with a loud guitar going off in the vicinity! Marc S
The guitarist I'm playing with these days isn't particularly loud either when playing or singing It really doesn't take too much background noise level to interfere with the Snark Funny enough, he's got the very same tuner and says exactly the same thing! TheRev
I use a Korg Pitchblack pedal tuner for onstage tuning checks, but the snark works well backstage or at soundcheck just before the guitar plugs in....
