leroydiamond
PLAYING IN A ROCK COVERS BAND AND WANT TO TAKE THE PRESSURE OFF OUR VOCALIST FOR A REGULAR EXTENDED SATURDAY NIGHT GIG, SO WE WANT TO INTRODUCE SOME INSTRUMENTALS. WE ARE A 3 PIECE (DRUMS, GUITAR, BASS). ANY RECOMMENDATIONS?
Mark_Bass
Hmmmm....I'd say Iron Maidens Losfer Words off of powerslave. But that's the only one that springs to mind at the mo, I'm sure others could suggest better/more accessible to the listener
the_skezz
Rush's YYZ, assuming that you are all Godlike at playing your instruments. Otherwise, I'm hard pushed to think of anything that'd be suitable for a covers act - most instrumentals tend to only be known by diehard fans of the original band. Though speaking purely for myself, I'd love to show up at a gig to see the aforementioned Losfer Words being played
Hobbayne
The F1 bit from Fleetwood Macs' The Chain, makes a great instrumental rocker!

paulconnolly
We're doing The Chain in our next set and we've learnt In That Quiet Earth. This is tricky without keys but with the addition of flute it sounds pretty good to me

mikeh
A Band I was in years ago did Steve vais for the love if God, absolutely bombed, needless to say we only did it the once

I think whether we put it in will depend on the audience and how we feel the gig is going.
gerryc
Band round our way used to do "Wipe out " by the Surfaris? used to go down a storm.
Cosmo Valdemar
Everybody loves a bit of The Shadows now don't they? Plus the audience will most likely recognise the tune. Also, Walk Don't Run or Wipeout.

bassjunkie
The beasties boys did a few cool instrumental grooves you could try to use/adapt if that suits your genre? Rich
xilddx
You have two choices in my book. Green Onions, or Dick Dale's version of Misirlou.

Paul S
If you are ok with some old fashioned RnB, what about 'Hideaway', a la John Mayall/Eric Clapton? Or 'Steppin' out'? Bit heavier - 'Rat Salad', Black Sabbath
Conan
Dick Dale's version of Misirlou.
Good call! Or this one... leroydiamond
Some great recommendations boys and girls. Keep them coming. I will draw up a short list by the weekend and make suggestions to my band mates. Great stuff and many thanks. I think an important thing to factor in is that the tunes need to be pretty much instantly recognisable by a crowd made up of regular punters out for a few beers on a Saturday night.
