I was thinking about Hoffman's Iron Law and was wondering if anyone was producing a really small, very hi-fi very low efficiency cab for use at home.
I'm thinking that, with the relative cheapness of power available in micro heads into a really inefficient but high quality design, something could be made that would have a micro head footprint, sound great, and not be too noisy to upset the Mrs and neighbours...

The Acme Low B series does pretty much what you're describing, but even the B1 isn't really that small - certainly not micro head size.

Although it's just occurred to me that small, low efficiency and hi-fi also perfectly describes... Hi-Fi speakers. :)

i have a great 4x5'' custom made celestion loaded cab just for this purpose, its 16ohm 120rms and tiny.
sounds perfect for rehearsing, obviously its doesnt have masses of bottom end but it works great.
i even have a dozen or so brand new drivers and the proper plans to make more too.
if you are interested i might be pursuaded to make another cheap :^)

I use an Acoustic Image Contra cab at home. A down firing 1x10 and a forward firing 5" driver. It sits very neatly under an EA Doubler amp.

I was thinking along those lines too. A 12 cabinet like an Ashdown Mibass 12 might be good.

I have a Mi12 and it isn't actually that small really. The Mi10 though, is diddy :)

The Mi10 will also work well. You can always use a tiny USB mixer and use a 2.1 PC speaker system - sometimes i can't bother myself to hook up the gear and i just plug the bass directly in to my mixer.

If you fancy a spot of DIY, you could consider this 8" Monacor unit available from Wilmslow Audio.

Nominally 100w power handling , but I would limit it to about 75. Only 89dB(a) rated output for 1w
input, so quieter than the usual shop bought speakers such as the MiBass. Seems to measure quite well in a 22 litre ported enclosure. Footprint could be about the same size as a Shuttle 6.2.

Balcro.

I have a Genz Benz 8 inch speaker. This one was part of a Shuttle 3.0 - 8T combo that I bought years ago. Got rid of the Shuttle en kept the cabinet for using at home.

Highly recommended. Maybe you can spot one for dirty cheap now Fender stops the GB line.

Picked one if these up today. UNBELIEVABLE sound, and then for a shoebox sized combo! Incredible.
Think it' weighs about 4lb.
It happily handles an acg 5 with low b and filter based eq section. Very transparent, I would say more so than the markbass I've recently acquired.
It's not going to be much use in a decent sized venue etc but I'm very impressed and for me it's ideal, portability being my main criteria.

4kg, 8.8lbs according to spec on Bass Direct. Still nothing though!
Already owning a micro head, just the speaker bit would be nice...

Just to update this. Spent all night noodling on my acg5 thru this. It really brings it to life, so much richer transparent sound than when it was through a little ashdown. Very impressed
