He goes on about it being a trivial matter changing the bass player again but they seem to go out of their way to make sure it's a woman each time. I guess they are just frightened of alienating their fanbase.

Presumably they also need vocals, and a female voice is fairly crucial for a large proportion of their back catalogue.

I love the Pixies (first two albums especially) and grew up playing their basslines, but I wouldn't be all that convincing singing [i]Gigantic.[/i]

I was brought up on the PIxies and Sonic Youth....great bands, of their era.

It's a shame, I really liked Kim Shattuck. I loved Kim Deal too back when they were in their heyday, but they don't seem to be able to function together. Apparently she just announced she was leaving mid-tour in a Café Nero in Monmouth! If it means they are writing new stuff rather than just churning out the old material, I'm not too bothered about Kim Deal leaving. I've just downloaded EP1 and I'm really enjoying it. I think they're still doing good stuff. Much as I love their music, though, I get the distinct impression that Black Francis etc. are a funny bunch of buggers.

The impression I got was that Kim Deal left because she couldn't commit to the touring the others wanted to do.

I'd say Paz Lenchantin is a very different bass player to the two Kims... and very attractive. Not the sort of bass player you'd expect to see or hear in The Pixies.

On a slight tangent here. I don't know much about the pixies, but what I've heard I didn't like. Obviously, I do know about Kim deals role etc.

Ah, the Pixies. How I loved them and still do. I play their early LPs in the car quite a lot on my phone. Nice. Glad to hear that they are back together and touring again. I might make an exception to my never-go-out-anywhere rule and see them if they make it over here.

I thought that myself ages ago before they hired Kim Shattuck.

It was a damn shame about Mrs Shattuck. Saw them play @ The Apollo back in November, and she was an awesome addition to the band. She looked like she was having a blast!

That's probably true. Though it was always Frank's/Charles' band in terms of songwriting and what not. Trouble is, as anyone who's watched the "loud QUIET loud" documentary will remember, they just don't talk to each other properly. Charles said it. Kelley Deal says it to Kim. And lo and behold, Kim Shattuck said that in an interview NME reported when the band's management handed her her notice!

That's something else hinted at in the aforementioned documentary.

Still, apart from the fact that I thought they might try & hire Kim Gordon (Ex Sonic Youth), Paz will doubtless do an awesome job until she leaves/is sacked
