Clarky Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 (edited) I have recently been listening to 'The Geese and the Ghost' by Anthony Phillips, the pre-Hacket guitarist for Genesis and its a great reminder how important he was to setting the tone for early 70s Genesis as well as a virtual-Genesis album (Mike Rutherford co-wrote quite a bit of it and plays on it, vox are by Phil Collins). If you like Trespass and Nursery Cryme this will be right up your street Here's a nice YouTube compilation of the album plus extras: Edited December 20, 2013 by Clarky Quote

Apparently he only left Genesis due to stage fright!!
And a serious attack of bronchial pneumonia that knocked him out for a while. Ant's a lovely chap. I live not far from him and see him around occasionally, and once got a phone call from him - in the pub, while myself and the singer were interviewing a keyboard player about joining our Genesis tribute band. "we don't always get phone calls from Genesis ex-members when talking to new bandmates" we had to admit. Anyway, he was calling to arrange collection of a 12-string guitar he was kindly donating as a charity auction item for a Genesis convention we were playing at. So I went to collect it, and we had a nice chat about the early days, and he asked if any of his era songs were in our set. He was quite chuffed to hear that The Knife, White Mountain, The Musical Box and Fountain of Salmacis were included. (The latter despite being on Nursery Cryme from after he left, featured compositional input from Ant). Quote
