Thunderbird Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 Just watched a bass related video on Youtube and the bass player kept licking his fingers before playing why would he do it? I can only think so the strings slide off his fingers easier Quote
Hobbayne Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 I do a similar thing by rubbing my nose. It does actually work for easier slides Quote
Bassman Steve Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 I'm an inveterate finger-licker. It's because the tips of my fingers dry out so quickly and 'stick' to the strings when plucking. Quote

wal4string Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 If I recall John Deacon was a licker. Quote

JapanAxe Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 If I am playing with a plectrum in cold conditions where my skin becomes dry, I sometimes lick my right-hand fingers to enable me to grip the plectrum. Quote
louisthebass Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 Jeff Andrews (one of Mike Stern's "go to" bassists) wipes his fingers on his forehead - I assume that the skin grease makes the tips of his fingers slippery.... Quote
