Graham
I'm no Ritter expert, but this strikes me as a bargain: http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/ritter-roya-jazz-bass-5-string/1042743870 Well, a bargain if you've got a spare grand hanging around

winterfire666
https://ritter-instruments.com/item_info.php?i=261 details on the ritter site for this bass
Dazed
Any way of telling if its genuine? Come across web talk of fake ritters when searching
winterfire666
dunno, the wood grain seems a perfect match to the one on the ritter site, if the pics are genuine that is.
Cairobill
Haven't been to Everton for a while but the landscape in the background of the photo doesn't look anything like everton. More like switzerland/austria If it is genuine, it's a great deal as these basses don't leave you much change from 5K or so. I smell a scam... winterfire666
well spotted, the background signage looks like usa to me, certainly not UK, highly suspicious.
Dazed
The bass originally went to a chap in New York
shizznit
I agree. The price alone raises alarm bells, but Liverpool/Merseyside has a pretty flat landscape. I know this might sound daft, but our grass in the UK is not that thick either. In other countries (like USA) grass is much wider and stiffer. This ad cannot be trusted. Steff
It's definitely the same one like on the website as I've compared the photos. I've emailed the seller, will post when I get a reply.
Steff
Also if it's a scam why would he suggest you'd check it on Ritters web site since once you do it you can clearly see it's been sold in the USA?...
HowieBass
... and wiped with a diaper after use? Hmmmmmm. According to Ritter it went to Chuck Bernklau in New York... https://www.facebook.com/chuck.bernklau Edited December 22, 2013 by HowieBass
bagsieblue
Agreed, I know this area very well, can't think of anywhere that looks like this though. Also the word 'diaper' rings alarm bells. Scousers have a dialect of their own but diaper is not one of the words I'd have expected..
Dazed
Maybe part of the ad was copied from an American ad. I bet chuck had a lot of traffic today! Anyone on Facebook ( I'm not) tried asking if he sold it? Here's why I wondered if it was gen. This was apperently a copy including the serial number. Not a genereic copy but a specific replica of an individual bass. Interesting read http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f8/guitar-center-sells-counterfeit-copy-my-ritter-despite-them-being-informed-727086/
HowieBass
The Gumtree advert must be a scam. Look at this eBay auction... for the same instrument http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ritter-Roya-Jazz-Bass-5-string-/261279864767?nma=true&si=wDji4N%252Bj8Wxd%252FiD78H1ZT8Wwk7I%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
tonyf
In my limited experience with another problem sale, Gumtree seem to be quite willing to investigate suspect sales if there's supporting evidence of shannagans. Maybe worth reporting it.
HowieBass
I've reported the Gumtree advert as fraudulent using the eBay sale in September as evidence.

Graham
Nice work guys, I knew Ritters were expensive, but didn't realise quite how expensive they were, otherwise alarm bells would have sounded sooner..... :embarrassed: Edited December 22, 2013 by Graham
