1/4 size double bass

Hello

I've already posted in the 'items wanted' section, but thought I might ask here as well, as you guys are most likely to be able to help me! I am trying to find a 1/4 size double bass for my children to learn on. The local music service won't rent them out unless we pay one of their tutors for lessons, but I'd like to teach them myself. I've taken a look on preloved/gumtree/ebay etc, but the ones on there are collection only from places quite a distance away (I'm based in Sheffield). Anyone know of anyone wanting to sell one, or know of anywhere I can get one that's not too expensive (bearing in mind they will outgrow it fairly quickly)?!

Cheers all & merry xmas!

Hi

My daughter has outgrown her 1/2 size so, though I can't help you with the 1/4 size, when your kids are a bit bigger get in touch if you need a bigger bass ( not that I am any where near Sheffield!).

Hope you find a 1/4 size. My daughter started on a 1/8 size through the music service and had great fun progressing. Sadly, she has parked her bass playing career for the moment.

Good luck and Happy Christmas

Simon

Hi, there's one on ebay at the moment
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Stentor-1-4-size-double-bass-with-case-and-bow/331089890764?_trksid=p2047675.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222002%26algo%3DSIC.FIT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D11%26meid%3D3598581897415489085%26pid%3D100011%26prg%3D1005%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D5%26sd%3D121236529826%26

Thanks both. I had seen this ebay one, but it's collection only from London. I had also considered a half size, as there seems to be more of them around, but I reckon it would still be just that bit too big (eldest son is 140cm, youngest 120cm). Quite frustrating. Wondering whether I'm going to have to re-tune a cello!!

Thought I'd replied to this yesterday

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Antoni-Debut-Double-Bass-Outfit/dp/B003JFK346/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&qid=1387817292&sr=8-15&keywords=1%2F4+double+bass

I got a 1/2 size one of these earlier in the year, quite impressed with the sound butt the neck was too skinny for me.

You could order one to try, comes in a large cardboard box. Return it if you're not happy within 30 days.

Thanks, it's looking like this might be my best option. I really thought I'd find one second hand 'cos kids must outgrow them, but I guess most people don't start double bass 'til they're older & bigger!
