Infinite shape feature is more than a gimmick, it really does help to get anywhere from a traditional British Marshall sound right through to a modern heavy weight distortion.

Can it do Fender?

Always found the Cornford amps highly overrated.
Sad to say, I agree with this.

Blackstar make some nice small amps as others have said. The Epi VJ had a hum problem in early versions though fixed by V3, and can sound rather splatty in overdrive. VHT make (made?) a nice 6W single ended amp that sounded really good. Bugera (yeah, I know) sell a small 5W combo that sounds really nice (I've played one at a music show - personal experience & not just recordings) in cream and brown tolex.

If you're handy with a soldering iron then Ampmaker do a nice 4W kit complete for £155. Barrie is a good guy and his stuff works well.

If you want something that's not too loud, great for recording and versatile, small and lightweight then have a look at the Yamaha THR10. That also has USB output for recording direct and has a great rep.

Funnily enough I was looking at the kit yesterday and I do quite fancy it, and wouldn't mind an electronics project to get stuck into... it looks a bit simple and I' prefer something with more control over gain/output vol and maybe some EQ. My mate happens to be selling his Vox AC4TV and I'm wondering if that might not be a good option, along with a few mods...

I have a VOX AC4TV, the 8" model (which I will also be selling soon to fund a new project), and I would heartliy recommend it if you have a studio in which to use it at volume. It has lots of good tone, but only one great tone, just on the edge of breakup in my opinion but it needs to be LOUD to get it. Plus, you get no separate gain control so it is all with the volume.
I use the Fender Superchamp X2 head which sounds good at lower volume and I can also get a line from the Direct out at the same time which gives a much more focussed tone but good to mix both takes at the end rather than relying on a single mike, and also can use a choice of cabs if one wasn't quite doing it for me.

+1 for the Blackstar HT1r. I have one for home use and it's a great little amp. Being only a 1 watt, you can get the valves cooking at acceptable volumes for great warm tones.
It has a speaker emulated recording output and speaker out if you don't like the 8" internal (I plug mine into a 4x12 sometimes)

Hope you get a great result with what you decide!

Anyone had any experience with the Sub Zero valve amps that gear4music are flogging?

http://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/SubZero-Tube-H5-Guitar-Amp-Head/NE1

Obviously there's only so much that you can expect at that price point, but I'd be interested to know whether they're worth taking a punt on, or not worth touching with a bargepole!

Seems favourable, can't really argue for less than a hundred!

1. Cheap, dependable, good tone: Fender Blues Jr.

2. Wonderful amp that may need to be repaired at some point, due to faulty parts and/or overheating, yet excellent recording quality. Marshall JTM 30, 2 x10.

3. Vox AC15.

4. Want a simple little blues amp for home practice? Pignose.

* You can probably get away with using #1 and #3 in a live setting if your drummer has a light touch.
** My favorite = #2. Despite it's reliability issues; a perfect studio amp in terms of tone and features.

I've recently been VERY impressed with the Fender Mustang modelling amps, to the extent that I'm going to change my plans for buying an all valve combo & get one of these instead.

The clincher was seeing the Handsome Family live last night. The guitarist had what I would describe as my dream guitar tone, and I fully expected to see him using an old tweed or blackface Fender of some description. It was a £200 Fender Mustang. :)

I just bought one too, amazing bit of kit for the price.

My daughter got a small practice amp for Xmas. She tried the Mustang, Blackstar ID:Core 10 and Roland Cube 20GX. She chose the Blackstar (which has a USB interface for configuration and recording). Neither of us were particularly impressed with the Roland and I agreed with her choice of the Blackstar but the Fender sounded pretty nice too.

All the Mustangs have USB interface too.
The Blackstar amps are very good, but they're much too Hi Gain, Heavy Metal for my taste.
The thing I loved about the Mustangs is they do old school lo gain sounds very well. I play totally clean with a lot of reverb & tremolo, which I realise a lot of people are not going to do.

Im surprised that no one mentioned the Joyo Sweet Baby (Fender clone) which is also being sold rebranded as FAME at Music Store for only 169 Euros

It's probably just not been mentioned because people haven't heard of it in the UK.
