Prime_BASS Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 So I just got an iPad from Santa and I was wondering what are the best and most useable apps for a budding musician. I don't have a mac book but if I could do some basic recording on this thing that would be awesome. Thanks dudes. Merry Christmas. Quote
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 Merry Christmas . Kaossilator, garageband, moog, alchemy, tune in radio, nano studio. Angry birds& a few pinball games. You may get discounts because of the holiday period loads more , but I'll leave that to the rest of the basschatters Quote
dave_bass5 Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 All of the above, plus some sort of interface of course. If it were me (and it was two Christmases ago) I'd get a JAM, although I've just spotted he new version and it's now well over £100 :-(. My fav app for bass players is a Amp kit. It has some pretty good simulations of some pretty big name gear, including Ashdown (without wooly emulation) and Trace Elliot. Well worth the asking price IMO. Quote
steve Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 iRealB if you are interested in jazz charts Quote
xgsjx Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 Guitar Toolkit is a very handy piece of kit for tuning, learning scales, chords & charts & also has a metronome/drum machine. Worth every penny of £5.99. Tabletop is a handy free app too. It's like having a table with different bits of kit on it (sequencer, drum machine, synths, effects, etc) & you can add to it (I already had the Akai iMPC app which I can use in it). You can also record into it, but I'm not sure if it's any good for that. Animoog is fun & was £2.99 about a month ago, but it's now £29.99 again. Quote
Mornats Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013
iRealB if you are interested in jazz charts
+1 and not just for jazz in my opinion. Quote
vsmith1 Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 PocketGK - if you want a GK amp model; but also JamUp XT Pro - for lots of stuff; PolyTune; OnSong; Guitar Pro +1 iReal Pro; +1 GarageBand; +1 AmpKit And a reasonable interface - I have a Peavey AmpKit. But a better quality one will be even better. Quote
bassist_lewis Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 ForScore is great for charts you have in PDF format (I think you can convert iRealb charts to PDF) and organise them into sets, by artist, genre, tags, very useful app. If you want to write notation get Notion, bit pricey but very good. GremlinAndy Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 iLift is a tasty app for learning songs. Works great and is pretty cheap for the full version. Quote
fretmeister Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Session Band (Jazz, Blues, Rock etc) is great. Roland Cube Jam is ace (and FREE) and will work with a iRig interface - you don't need to buy the CubeJam amp. It does very accurate speed and pitch changes and will import songs directly from iTunes too. I use it all the time to learn new stuff. Quote

Prime_BASS Posted February 11, 2014 Author Posted February 11, 2014 All sounds good guys. Would it be worth me getting the iRig kit then? Quote

dand666 Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 I use set list maker and use this for my shows and all my music. I can upload PDFs or documents and upload them next to the appropriate song. With the correct chords it also allows me to change keys e.t.c Quote
Monckyman Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 On Song, for lyrics chords set lists etc. Very easy to get all your stuff together in one place. Quote

dave_bass5 Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Ah right, same as all mine. I was going to suggest the older JAM interface but the new version with the lightning connector is a lot more money so won't bother (it is very good though) Quote

Bill F Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 You will certainly need a tuner and a metronome. You can try this app: "Cadenza: Tuner + Metronome" Seems to work pretty well. And it has a high degree of accuracy. Quote
