Can anyone give any listening suggestions ?

I'm looking for some new music but whatever I search I end up already having on my iTunes list. What I'm looking for is soul music, not the 'soul' from the pop charts but REAL soul artists. People like the oldies e.g. Anita Baker. Anything that has a nice feel to it. I like the modern edge to some of the artists as well like Joss Stone who really can sing.

I hope that makes a tiny bit of sense if not it's going to be a long night googling stuff :/

"The Flight" from The Perri Sister's. this is best soul album ive ever heard, period. Anita Baker's backing singers. from there second album. if you love gospel/soul/bassplaying/jazz this stuff is off the wall good. there harmonies are so amazing. Some of the early Chaka Khan stuff is amazing, featuring Anthony Jackson on bass too.

Marcus Miller sessioned on a lot of the late 70's and early 80's stuff, have a listen to Al Jarreau and Luther Vandross.

Here's a Soul/Jazz artist you'll never have heard of, KJ Denhart. I met her in New York playing in a little bar with some amazing players. I bought her Album 'Lucky 7' and it's definitely one of my favourites. There's some great bass on it too.

Do you have Spotify? If so, find all of the suggested songs above, pop them into a playlist then make a radio station from that playlist and star any of the tracks you like. Great way to find good new (or old) music.

If you think that Joss Stone can really sing then you have a wonderful journey ahead of you discovering hundreds of singers that are far better than Ms Stone. Listen to everything you can and judge for yourself.
