Dom in Dorset
I'm thinking of buying one as a donor bass for a couple of bitsa build projects. I'm not expecting miracles but what are they like? In particular what are the necks like?
rallyeluke
http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_jb_75_sb_vintage_serie.htm one of these is a far better bet and comes with alnico wilkinson pickups as standard and cheaper then the rocktile
Dom in Dorset
I specifically need a maple board , I some nice pickups already. All I will be using is the neck, the body (probably stripped ), machines , bridge and pots In full - I'll be using the neck for a telecaster bass I'm building. I'll fit a fretless neck to the (Rocktile) body and put in some Wizard pickups I already have. rallyeluke
If you are after a nice Full maple necked bass then the Tony Butler Vintage V4 signature is your best bet but they are a P-Bass

Dom in Dorset
Sorry, need to be a maple boarded jazz neck, the bass must be under £150! I have a Westfield P with maple board, the Tony Butler looks great but not quite right for these projects.
rallyeluke
Head stock is the right shape Law suit much! looks like a nice little thing, basswood body is not desireable though, especially at this low end of the scale, tone will no doubt be lacking but without any reviews it is just hearsay Edited December 28, 2013 by rallyeluke
Dom in Dorset
I've done some research and it seems to be the cheapest maple boarded jazz on the market, I don't find body material plays a great part in a basses sound ( I have a nice Fender Jazz and several plywood basses , I can't tell the difference!) I also have an Amamzon voucher to use. I'm most interested to see if anyone has seen one in the flesh and what they thing of the over all build. rallyeluke
Every cheap Basswood body bass I have played has left me severely dissapointed, tone is always off and the low density of the wood makes them feel odd, but these are my opinions. I think you will struggle to find any concise review on them just a few youtube videos of the shop demoing them. At that price though just take a punt, even just for the neck

The J&D is a block mounted one too, I love block mounts but they aren't required for this project. The Rocktile is still the favourite, I have £30 Amazon voucher to use that makes quite a difference to the price. I'll give it a couple more days thinking time and unless someone suggests a better one (or says they've tried a Rocktile and it was total sh*te ) I'll get it. Re the basswood body, I can't say I've tried one, If I hate it I can always sell it and move on. The project involving that isn't the priority.
