thebassist Posted December 31, 2013 Author Posted December 31, 2013 Thanks a lot gentlemen but I actually made the wrong request - I should have asked for bass tab. While my playing ability is OK from being in various bands for twenty odd years, my theory is at beginner level - I'm currently studying Rock School grade 3. I'd like to get hold of the bass tab so that I can play along with the Heavy Weather CD. Quote
thebassist Posted December 31, 2013 Author Posted December 31, 2013 (edited) That is why I'm doing grades but I'd like to play along to the CD now. Edited December 31, 2013 by thebassist Quote

thebassist Posted December 31, 2013 Author Posted December 31, 2013 I've found them online. Thanks. Quote
foal30 Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 Boring old man writes never miss a chance to read music. If you learn it off the stave it stays in your head properly. Quote
thebassist Posted January 1, 2014 Author Posted January 1, 2014 While I agree, I'm simply not going to be able to learn to read music as quickly as I'd like which is why I'm taking my grades now - I completely understand that there are no short cuts to learning to read music but I do need to be able to play Birdland and Havona by next Saturday so needed the tab. I'll be able to learn and play the bass part while playing along to the CD. Quote
TKenrick Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014
I do need to be able to play Birdland and Havona by next Saturday
Havona in 10 days? Best of luck! Quote
Myke Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 I myself am not amazing at reading music but I have some ability to do it. I learnt by putting myself in a situation where I had to learn to do the gig (pit work). So perhaps for you, this could have been the best situation to do it. But saying that, you have to play Jaco.. So perhaps not! Anyway, good luck with the songs and with your grades Quote
thebassist Posted January 1, 2014 Author Posted January 1, 2014 (edited) I've pretty much got Birdland now. Havona is so, so hard - I'll try my damn hardest but I'm not confident on this one at all. Edited January 1, 2014 by thebassist Quote
Steve Woodcock Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 You might find this of use: http://youtu.be/JrtoaB-hy5g Quote
thebassist Posted January 1, 2014 Author Posted January 1, 2014 Absolutely brilliant. Thanks a lot. Quote
thebassist Posted January 1, 2014 Author Posted January 1, 2014 Found this FYI all. Mind you, I'm not confident I'll be able to get this in 10 days. I wouldn't be able to put a timeframe on it but I reckon I'll need at least a month with this piece. http://trinityrockstore.fabermusic.com/Havona-Grade-8-Bass-b1014.aspx Quote
