Anybody know a) what his single humbucker bass is and B) how he gets that hot fat sound please?

Thanks, listening now - painful to listen to though, both of them are speaking really slowly and pausing every couple of words. I'll have what they're smoking!

LOVE Vulfpeck so much!!! Been digging this for a while. And even cooler is that I got to see Joe Dart play live last night in Belfast!!!

He's on tour with The Olllam. This band are too damn good. Featuring fellow Vulfpeckers Theo Katzman on guitar and Woody Goss on Wurlitzer. The interplay between Joe and drummer Michael Shimmin was breathtaking.

Check them out: https://www.facebook.com/theolllam

Here's the remaining tour dates:

He's a proper player isn't he. I think my fave track of Vulfpeck's is 'Outro'...some absolutely audacious bass playing on there! I love how he's so in the pocket and loving being the rhythm section, and then he just blows it all apart with a stunning fill. He's so spontaneous too; it doesn't feel too technical or cerebral...just spur of the moment, warts-and-all feel. Of course, all their tracks are recorded almost completely live: Jack Stratton is a real old-school recording nerd!

Good skills man! Proper jealous - I remember the campaign for the 45 of Beastly was was stoney broke at the time. Are they still available?

Had to wait a long old time for it tho! Not sure if they have any left, but they were pretty good with contact, might be worth a punt?

(Nice website btw)

Thanks for this!

Waded through this for breakfast. Not sure what was lumpier, the porridge or the conversation. To conclude,

MIM Jazz, 70s style Seymours, Badass, dead 45-105 rotos.
Basslines bass? Flats
Squier Classic vibe, flats

Cheap, cheerful. No hint on amplification or recording techniques, although I'm pretty certain in recent live vids it looks like he's using a certain 2 112 rig of an alphabetically premium New York manufacturing location.

Additionally, the Squier had a sponge mute, and the interview recordings had the bass going straight to audio interface (focusrite saffire) which may or may not have had the preamp turned on ? (Hard to tell from the conversation). The interview bass recordings did sound to my ears very like the studio vulfpeck recordings though.

Also - TI flats on the cheapo bass with the Music Man pickup, and suspension bridge cable Jamerson La Bella flats on the P. A fact I was most pleased to learn as I have a cheapo bass with a Music Man pickup arriving tomorrow and already have a spare set of unopened TI's!

JD seems to be standing infront of Ampegs most of the time, but I don't know if that's what were hearing. In his live shows he seems to be using an Ampeg cab with a GK 800RB.

....and there's more.......

Might be biased but I think those are Aggie 112s, on top of good ol' fashioned good time grooves, naturally!
