ATSbassman Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 (edited) Hi all First should give you a little it of background info as it would probably be beneficial I'm a 17 year old metal bassist and currently use a duel rail double humbucker Kramer I am after a second bass, something again with humbuckers as I like the sound they give towards my tone but I don't have silly money spending I prefer either matching headstocks or maple necks So with that info what options might I have that I can get a bass that is still good quality but won't go breaking the bank? hamfist Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 Would be useful to know your budget. But I'd recommend the Yamaha TRBX504, or the TRBX304 if you cannot afford the 504 Quote
Graham Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 Yamaha and Peavey are the first names that jump to my mind when looking for affordable/quality Quote
Lw. Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 Peavey are a good bet when on a budget - great sound & quality for the money. Quote
ATSbassman Posted January 1, 2014 Author Posted January 1, 2014 I'm looking at £400< really, nothing too pricey but still something nice to play Quote
Cameronj279 Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 I can't vouch for peavey but I do hear a lot of praise for them! Yamahas are really good quality for the value. Ibanez sr500's are fairly decent and can be picked up second hand usually really cheap Quote
ATSbassman Posted January 1, 2014 Author Posted January 1, 2014 Whats everyones opinion on the Spector performers or Warwick Rockbasses? Know they are the low end but coming from well know companies is worth considering? Quote
John Schoen Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 Don't know about those two but I can recommend a G&L Tribute L-2000. You should be able to find a used one within your budget, they have two humbuckers that you will probably like and are very good quality basses. You will be amazed at the sounds that you can get from them. Quote
I know where you're coming from, and a lot of bassists from bands you probably like play Warwicks or Spectors, but you would do better going for a used one if you want on of those name brands. A used Spector Legend Classic could easily be got within your budget. If you look around you can pick up the occasional German Warwick for about £400 these days too. Maybe a Fortress or a Corvette. Seriously, thought, if you're buying new, try a Yamaha TRBX504. It'll thrash the pants off a Rockbass or a Performer in every category of quality. Edited January 1, 2014 by hamfist Quote
I've had a Spector legend classic sixer for a while now and to be honest, it's a great bass... the fit and finish are actually better than my German Warwick and US Fenders... Very modern scooped tone though, bright and deep. You should be able to find a 5 string well within your budget. I think these are a lot of bass for the money. Quote
cetera Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Spector Legend series all the way! Great bass for the money.... Quote
ATSbassman Posted January 2, 2014 Author Posted January 2, 2014 The more I think about it, I keep coming back to the spectors as they have the duel coil humbuckers that I love plus they don't look half bad! Now it's just if I can fid a legend for he right price or I go with a performer new Quote
Mornats Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 I've got a Yamaha TRBX 504 and a Warwick Rockbass Corvette and the Yamaha beats the Rockbass hands-down for playability, the power of the tone and the looks. Quote
