Mog Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Just wondering if anyone has tried potting the exposed sections of instrument cable (ie. inside the jack) in wax to further reduce noise, microphonics etc. If it works for PUPs then it might be worth a shot. Quote
brensabre79 Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Well, no. You see a pickup by its very design is similar to a microphone. i.e. a coil with a magnet in the middle. the thing it is missing is a diaphragm that moves the coil (or the magnet), however vibrations can cause the pickup to become microphonic when the coil and/or the pole vibrate. Wax potting prevents this. I used to use these when I worked in studios as the patch cables would last much longer, but I doubt it would have any effect on microphonics though. Of course i could be completely wrong! Quote
6v6 Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 I agree, with good quality, properly assembled cables this won't make any difference and will make a big mess when you have to do repairs in future. Quote
