BetaFunk Posted January 4, 2014 Author Posted January 4, 2014 Oh dear. I mentioned Jazz-Rock. No one is going to read this post are they? I might have to sex the title up a bit. What about 'Not For The Narrow Minded"............ That should work Quote

Cyrene Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 Michael Henderson's playing with Miles is awesome. Quote
mickster Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014
Michael Henderson's playing with Miles is awesome.
Agreed. Funky & inventive as all hell. Wasn't aware of his latter day 'soul' efforts, mind. Having listened to it, I think I'll stick to his Jazz fusion stuff... thx BetaFunk Quote
BetaFunk Posted January 4, 2014 Author Posted January 4, 2014 Got to agree with all the above. Great playing. I've wondered, probably since Live Evil was released but is Michael Henderson using any FX on this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lb-jR8OSXaY Quote
mickster Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 I'd always kind of assumed some of that 'heaviness' in his sound came from Teo M's post-production buggery, but the track above is from the Live section of that album, so dunno. Could be a fuzz, could just be an old tube amp turned up to the edge of what those crappy old cones could take. Could even be the levels overblowing slightly on the recording. Me, I like to think its because MH was the bastard love-child of Mingus & Bootsy and the Funk was all in them there fingers Quote
yorks5stringer Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 (edited) I know a man who made a Bass for Michael Henderson: Jim Fleeting from Ripon. Here's a photo of it:http://jimfleetingguitars.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/angled.jpg. Maybe someone can do a linky, seems to have stopped working for me....
