I was wondering if the trem on the Squier Bass VI is the same or drop in replaceable with the trem on the Jaguar or Jazzmaster guitars?
There are quite a few replacements of those, and they are all lockable.

Currently the non lockableness of the Squier hasn't caused me any issues like I thought it would, but at some point it would be nice to replace it. As I also fancy a black pickguard it would be handy to do all those things at the same time when I could throw a new set of strings on there too.

The parts look identical with regard to the screw placing, but it is hard to find other details about them.

It's a straight swap with no problem. I have done it.

Thanks very much - I think I will go for that then.

Did you actually notice any advantage in doing it?

The only advantage, as I understand it, is the ability to lock the trem so that if and when a string breaks the tremolo spring does not put everything out of tune because of the loss of tension.

Setting up the trem instructions are here: http://www.webrocker.de/jaguar/cms/2007/05/12/setup-the-tremolo-system/
