Bass Tuner

[Absolute Beginner]

Hi all.

Please can someone recommend a decent basic tuner for me to use with my Epiphone Viola, as this is the one thing I forgot to purchase when getting my guitar.....?

I'm not looking to spend lots of money on it.

PS I live in England.

I have been using a Korg Pitchblack for a few years now.

There are usually one or two in the for sale section for around £30. They are less than £50 new.

Clip on tuner- the snark is great, if a little battery hungry
Pedal- korg pitch black, t c poly tune (any variation), boss tu2/3
They all do the job.

If you have an iPhone or ipad try the clear tune app. Will probably need an amp, but will do the job for home rehearsal and only cost a few quid from the app store

BTW if you've got an android or iphone you can get some pretty decent free tuning apps.

If you're gigging, you really need an in-line tuner with a clear, bright LED display, like the Korg Pitchblack or the Boss one, so you can tune between songs in the dark.

If you're not gigging, a phone app would do. If you're playing along to tracks on a PC or Youtube, you may find the pitch is slightly different from the standard pitch on a standalone tuner, and it's enough to sound bad. In that case, tune to something like http://www.tunemybass.com/.

I'm a fan of the Boss portable tuners. Very precise, even on a bass, which is what we want. It looks like this

These are very good too! We have them in the shop I work in. They have a visual metronome, which is kinda cool. Instead of beeping, it flashes.

Korg GA-1 for a cheap small tuner or if it is a pedal tuner you want Boss TU-2 or Korg pitchblack

I have a little Korg GA in the spare bedroom for when I'm noodling around to stuff and for gigging have the Behringer pedal tuner, never let me down and excellent value for money (assuming they still make them?)
