Absolute Beginner Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Hi all. Please can someone recommend a decent basic tuner for me to use with my Epiphone Viola, as this is the one thing I forgot to purchase when getting my guitar.....? I'm not looking to spend lots of money on it. PS I live in England. Many thanks, Fraser. Quote
gjones Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 (edited) snark tuners are great for bass. Pretty cheap too. Edited January 5, 2014 by gjones Quote
Jonesy64 Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 I have been using a Korg Pitchblack for a few years now. There are usually one or two in the for sale section for around £30. They are less than £50 new. Quote
dudewheresmybass Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Clip on tuner- the snark is great, if a little battery hungry Pedal- korg pitch black, t c poly tune (any variation), boss tu2/3 They all do the job. Quote
discreet Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 (edited) Planet Waves Micro Headstock Tuner. £12: http://www.amazon.co...k/dp/B005FKF1PY Though lately I've been using an Android app for tuning. Balcro Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 http://www.gak.co.uk/en/korg-ga-1-guitar-bass-tuner/30612 Does the job. Quote
Damonjames Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 If you have an iPhone or ipad try the clear tune app. Will probably need an amp, but will do the job for home rehearsal and only cost a few quid from the app store Quote
Guest bassman7755 Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Well I can say do not get a sabine stx1500 BTW if you've got an android or iphone you can get some pretty decent free tuning apps. Quote
spinynorman Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 If you're gigging, you really need an in-line tuner with a clear, bright LED display, like the Korg Pitchblack or the Boss one, so you can tune between songs in the dark. If you're not gigging, a phone app would do. If you're playing along to tracks on a PC or Youtube, you may find the pitch is slightly different from the standard pitch on a standalone tuner, and it's enough to sound bad. In that case, tune to something like http://www.tunemybass.com/. Quote

BottomE Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Got a Snark footpedal tuner for Christmas. Used it twice on gigs. Bloody brilliant. Highly recommended. Quote
Bobthedog Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Boss TU-80 for me too. As a beginner, the metronome function is also useful. Quote

Thunderbird Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 (edited) Korg GA-1 for a cheap small tuner or if it is a pedal tuner you want Boss TU-2 or Korg pitchblack Edited January 5, 2014 by Thunderbird Quote
KevB Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 I have a little Korg GA in the spare bedroom for when I'm noodling around to stuff and for gigging have the Behringer pedal tuner, never let me down and excellent value for money (assuming they still make them?) Quote
