DroG Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Hi, Just picked up a Hohner B2a through Gumtree and very nice it is too. I have query; the battery cover says 1 or 2 batteries - as I received it, it is fitted with one, the second position being occupied by a metal "thing" with a hole in it marked "OUT" with a L to H arrow 'round it, and a variable pot buried inside. Whilst having the right size and shape to fit in the space of a second battery, attempts to remove it reveal it to be wired in. So, is the legend on the battery cover just generic on a bought-in component, or is a replacement ? What is the metal "thing"? Is it original? Any ideas? Serial on the bass is 8614396 if that's any help at all. Quote
Marvin Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 I had a B2A, always wondered what the metal thing was. I'll be interested to also find out what it is Quote
King Tut Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Well the pot is there to vary the output of the active circuit to balance it to the volume of the bass if used passive, so I'd very much doubt the box is designed to come out. Quote
geoffbyrne Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 The metal 'thing' *is* the pre-amp. I had a Hohner Pro JJ that was exactly the same. G. Quote
Paul S Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Indeed. I'd take a guess that the battery cover is a replacement as the originals are notorious for going missing (but where do they end up?) - I always thought a double battery case might fit. Quote
DroG Posted January 5, 2014 Author Posted January 5, 2014 Paul S is probably right, this cover is captive at one end, and flips up. Thank you everyone for clearing this up, all is clear now. - DroG Quote
