Mattanorak
I need some help. I started playing 2 years ago and bought an Aria Pro-II SB550 to learn on. I then grew the herd and bought a new Yamaha RBX170, mainly because I spend time away from home in hotels on business and wanted something cheap to plug away on that wouldn't upset me too much if it got some battle scars. Now here's the problem! I have some really lovely guitars now that just highlight the lack of quality of the Yamaha when I play it so I need to replace it. The replacement will still be dragged around the UK when I'm on business but it needs to be something much closer in quality to the rest of the herd. What are your thoughts? Mornats
You should try out the new Yamaha TRBX 504, there's no lacking of quality on those. They're nice and light and very nice and easy to play too.
Mattanorak
Thanks Mornats Are they Japanese or Korean made?
theyellowcar
I would take a look at the VM and CV Squiers, great quality basses
Mornats
They're Indonesian made but look and feel better put-together than most American or Mexican Fenders.
Mattanorak
Thanks for your ideas... I'm tempted by the Yamaha but will keep an eye out on ebay for a good 2nd hand one
thisnameistaken
Just stopped in to congratulate you on your solicitation of opinions. Differing opinions aren't often sought around here. Oh and the Yamaha BB1024X must be worth a try. Edited January 5, 2014 by thisnameistaken
ead
So many choices available, more so if you buy preloved. Any thoughts on your budget?
ead
Something like this maybe? They seem to go for not much at all given the pedigree. I used to own one of the Contemporary J basses from the Overwater by Tanglewood range and it was a very good quality bass. Very playable and great sound. Fairly heavy though - around 10lbs each, hence why I went for the 8lb Yamaha for gigging.
Mattanorak
Thanks for all of your input. As I already have some really nice P and J bass examples I don't think I want to add to them. Also under consideration is the Ibanez SR500. I'd be interested to know people's thoughts as I've read mixed reports on the quality.

I'm not bothered about the Sandberg because it's a 'keeper' and one day (when I'm old and crazy) it'll fetch a premium!

Absolute Beginner
Hi. Is the Squier Vintage Modified Jazz bass quite heavy ? I'm thinking of getting one myself. Thanks.
Scott S
Hi Big shout out for the Squier CV Precision! I picked one up here a few weeks ago used, but in perfect condition, and it even had a chrome ashtray added! A great looking, great sounding budget instrument...for £230 including delivery! Tbh it's still be a bargain at the RRP of around £330-360.
Grangur
Here's one - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ibanez-SR500-bass-guitar-/251428142036?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item3a8a48fbd4 Ibanez SR500. with Bartolini pups too. Also, if the body gets pranged you can rub it down, change it to blonde (it's blonde under the brown stain) and it'll look even cooler.
