DSBass Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Im going to trade my Fender for obe of these because I need a 5-string. I know that TRB 5P is the more expensive one but how does the much newer 1005j hold up against it? Is it worth still getting the 5P? Best regards/Daniel Quote
steve-bbb Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 absolutlely definitely if dosh is no object go for the trb5p i currently have a 1004 and its very well made but is still no comparison to the early 90s trb6p i once had the built quality on the early japanese trb's is quite staggering and the tone is something else Quote
ambient Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 TRB5P for definite ! The P is for piezo, so it's got a piezo pickup built into the bridge. My TRB6P is something like 25 years old this year, and is still an amazing bass to play, it has been well looked after though, but it's probably the best 6 that I've played. Quote
steve-bbb Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 check out Kevin Glasgow with his 6p http://basschat.co.uk/topic/61774-show-us-your-playing-videos/page__st__900__p__1906972#entry1906972 http://youtu.be/GC2i_04z8XY Quote
pete.young Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Could be wrong about this but I think the 1005 is a 35 inch scale. Quote
It is, the second generation TRB6P's were too, the early ones like mine are 34". Edited January 11, 2014 by ambient Quote
pete.young Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 I had a first generation TRB5P and only sold it to buy a BBNE2, which I think has a wider range of tones even without the piezo, the preamp is incredible. Quote
DSBass Posted January 7, 2014 Author Posted January 7, 2014 Thanks for all the quick answers. It was like I thought. Then it will be the trb 5p. Its the first generation of them I guess. Its a red one. Best regards/Daniel Quote
ambient Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Play around with preamp, you'll read that lots of people want to change it for something more versatile, but there's no need, play around with cutting and boosting frequencies at the same time, you'll find it's plenty versatile. Quote

pete.young Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Great choice. Don't forget to post some pictures! Quote
Smythe Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Morecambe promenade music currently have my old modified yamaha trb1005j for sale at a steal. They don't specify the mods on the site, but it certainly sounds great. very unique (rickenbacker - esque), I just couldn't get on with 5strings though. It has a Hipshot A style Bridge (Aluminium), glockenklang 3 band preamp and a bartolini ADBG buffer circuit. Quote

DSBass Posted January 9, 2014 Author Posted January 9, 2014 So I got the TRB 5P today. It´s a beauty. I have only played through the computer with earphones yet, but tomorrow I have a gig and will testdrive it through a Marshall 400w amp on a pretty big stage. I´ll come back with pics of the bass, and to tell you how I liked it on the gig. Best regards/Daniel Quote
Thurbs Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Good news! I would love one of these also but havent managed to raise the cash yet... look forward to the pictures. Quote

I was lucky enough to have a Fender American Standard Jazz 2012 to trade otherwise I wouldn´t be able to afford this one either. I love Jazz basses but have always wanted a TRB. I also need a 5 string. Quote
