Indy Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 A bit leftfield, going through a phase of trying to learn bass lines by ear and I'm currently trying standing on your head by The seahorses. I love the sound of the bass throughout the album does anyone know, or could hazard a guess to what kind of bass is being played on it? Many thanks Quote
Cosmo Valdemar Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 I remember seeing the bass player with a Fender Jazz on telly back in the day. With block inlays on the neck IIRC! Don't know what was on the recording though. I was at school at the time and very much part of the metal brigade so listening to such bands was not allowed. Quote
tazza1 Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 I think it was a Fender Jazz from memory (Stuart Fletcher?). Quote
Gust0o Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 I know Stu, lovely bloke. Had a couple of gigs with his new lot, We Could Be Astronauts. Cat can play! If it's the same as his current, it'll be a mid-70s jazz. With some stickers his nipper has added Quote
thisnameistaken Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Yeah he's got a '74 (IIRC) Jazz, looks all original to me, he still plays it. Quote
Indy Posted January 9, 2014 Author Posted January 9, 2014 Thanks for the responses, looks like I need to save some pennies up!! Quote
Geek99 Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Saw the same concert I think. Definitely a jazz, send to recall it was sunburst Quote
Indy Posted January 9, 2014 Author Posted January 9, 2014 Would that be the same as recorded on the album? Excuse me I'm new! Quote
brensabre79 Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Album may have been a Musicman Stingray. I played with them very briefly in the early days, he had a black Stingray, changed to the 70s Jazz mid-way through recording album i think, so it's anybody's guess. I would say, just go your own way with the sound, get as close as you can, but play the way you play. Even with the same gear you'll never sound exactly like somebody else - it's more to do with technique than equipment Quote
AndyTravis Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 I always had it in my head I saw him playing a G&L ASAT bass. Might just be my memory being totally wrong. Quote
Gust0o Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014
Yeah he's got a '74 (IIRC) Jazz, looks all original to me, he still plays it.
I forget you're a Yorkie, too! It's got some dents it. Big gouge out of the fretboard which was taped up when I last saw it. Quote
