Shockwave Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Hey guys. Just ordered one sight unseen to build up my credit rating. Got one in Chocolate with case for £500 or £50 deposit plus 12 payments of £40. Anyone have much experience with these guitars? Not that thrilled about black tuners or the black plastic humbuckers, but for the price you cant really complain! Can anyone recommend a string set that can be bought of the shelf that is specific to true drop tunings? (IE DR Drop tune is not this!) Cheers!
DorsetBlue Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 I have just fitted D'Addario Jazz 13 gauge onto my SG copy and it is tuned to Drop B. Bought from Mansons (we were in Exeter on a shopping trip) but these are them: http://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/p/911822/daddario-ej22-nickel-wound-jazz-w-wound-3rd-13-56-medium/
dannybuoy Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 D'Addario EXL158's are a bit heavier on the bottom, designed for baritone scale guitars tuned B-B. So with the shorter scale, C standard should be no problem, strings might be a bit tight up top in drop C though with 13's:
dlloyd Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 D'Addario have a useful resource for comparing tensions of different gauges at different tunings: http://www.daddario.com/DAstringtensionguide.Page?AxPageID=2371&Mode=0&ActiveID=&sid=0bddcd26-6f98-4828-be98-e8fc36752567
Ian Savage Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Can recommend the Dunlop Heavy Core strings if you want to avoid 'floppiness' (and who doesn't?) http://www.jimdunlop.com/product/heavy-core-guitar-strings
