8 string bass..but octave spacing? - HJ Freaks.

I've never seen a bass like this before...I've come across stringy cat-gut stylie acoustic folky 12 strings that I think are tuned normally, but with octave between 'same note' strings...but a bass?

My eyes may deceive me, but has our favorite cross dressing Korean 'slapster' got an 8 string bass? I like the sound of it.

...there are tuners a'plenty on that headstock?

While not common, 8, 10, 12, 15 string basses have been around for years- first time I heard one was on Pearl Jam's Jeremy- the whole song is on 12 string but it's particularly audible during the intro and the chime-like ending.12 string bass is 3 strings per note

4, 5 'n 6 single string per note but never double octave on a bass...but i dont get out much!!

8 string basses aren't common but they've certainly been around for a long time.Check out some of John Paul Jones solo stuff using a Manson 8 string.

Dean, Schecter and Hagstrom all currently make 8-string basses.

I had a 1960's Hagstrom, total tone monster

I have owned 3 different B.C.Rich Bich 8 strings, still own one of them, a 1985 Supreme version, one of only 20 made, I use it as a 4 stringer though

I think Jeff Ament occasionally used a Hamer 8 string with Pearl Jam.

He played a 12ver - Hamer made a Jeff Ament signature model at one point.

12vers are awesome - wish I'd never sold mine.

Noel Redding used one for a while in the Jimi Hendrix Experience... Spanish Castle Magic was one of the tracks he played it on. Jimi also used one from time to time:

...and Hagstrom have since reissued that well-regarded 8-string. I've got one!



They're a bit different from the original '60s designs, but they still sound amazing.
