AndyTravis Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 (edited) Just tried my second Kingbass. Belongs to our very own MB1, and as with the last one I tried (also belonged to MB1 - but had narrower spacing.) Do you know, I really like them...this one felt more familiar - standard spacing. What corking instruments. If I could just get a bit of coin together - I'd potentially be in trouble. Always been a huge MK fan, and this mk1 artist bass does a number on that set of sounds; but it does so much more. Well...here's a pic. It's ace. And I'm jealous of you if you own one. http://instagram.com/p/jCOE-WOQeI/ Andy x Edited January 19, 2014 by AndyTravis Quote
BassBus Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 All Status basses are as good as that and, compared to the price of some other custom instruments, very good value for money. Quote
AndyTravis Posted January 11, 2014 Author Posted January 11, 2014 Yeah, every status I've seen/played has impressed me. Quote
steve-soar Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 I have a lefty S2 Classic, beautifully built, great to play, and sexy. But, the eq is not to my liking and the volume goes from 0-100 in a quarter turn. Does mine have a problem? Quote
AndyTravis Posted January 11, 2014 Author Posted January 11, 2014 I'm not overly familiar - lead to believe Dawn and Rob are very helpful when contacted. I've emailed Rob twice, once about a Kingbass, once about a neck and he replied both times very promptly. Quote
steve-soar Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 Yes, Andy, both Rob and Dawn are brilliant. I just excepted that it was the way the tone and volume were. I turn the volume up from nothing and a quarter turn later I have full volume. The eq is just different from what I'm use to, as I use John East eq's. Quote
AndyTravis Posted January 11, 2014 Author Posted January 11, 2014 First idea is that it's a logarithmic pot rather than a linear - made that mistake years ago when I took it upon myself to 'redo the pickups' on a mates cheap guitar. Just meant it was an all or nothing sweep on the pot. (Sorry if this has already been explored, red wine tired x) Quote
steve-soar Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 (edited) Good call Andy. It never fussed me, as I have vol on full. I guess I should stop moaning and just enjoy the beauty that is a Status bass, Edited January 12, 2014 by steve-soar Quote
AndyTravis Posted January 12, 2014 Author Posted January 12, 2014 I've just seen a blue retroglide. Game over. I'm going for one... Now...need to raise £2500. Hmm. Anyone know the build time on a status? Quote

[/quote] 16 to 20 weeks, it's a small team of geniuses so occasionally they're struck by illness but they almost always stick to their estimates. Might be worth a trip down to see them so you can discuss options, choose finishes etc. Plus there's the Gear Porn section here and the Statii forum which will probably give you some ideas. AndyTravis Posted January 12, 2014 Author Posted January 12, 2014 I know what I'd want the spec to be, think I'll sit down with a calculator and start sussing what needs to be done to get one. And I'll keep an eye out for used ones in the meantime. They really are fantastic. Quote
AndyTravis Posted January 12, 2014 Author Posted January 12, 2014 How does rob work it, hefty deposit then payment on completion? Quote
mxm Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 I paid half up front then remainder on completion. Quote
AndyTravis Posted January 12, 2014 Author Posted January 12, 2014 Eeeh. Ok, will keep that in mind. Cheers. Quote
witterth Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 (edited) I have this one from/thanks to MB1 Andy its a good bit of kit. I use it a lot but then again I'd guess you'd approve of that. Edited January 12, 2014 by witterth Quote
AndyTravis Posted January 12, 2014 Author Posted January 12, 2014 Hahaha...already played 'her' when MB1 had it. Good half hour fumble...fnar. Quote
AndyTravis Posted January 12, 2014 Author Posted January 12, 2014 Something may or may not be happening with an existing kingbass... Very exciting. Quote
M@23 Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Always curious and never had the chance to try one of these, the only person Iocally I know of that has one (probably many!) is the man himself! They look pretty mean though. Quote
4000 Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 (edited) I always wanted to get on with Status basses but never have. I've had four and played dozens and if any bass really doesn't seem to work for me sonically it's Status. The ergonomics of the classic Status shape cripple me too, which doesn't help. I'd love to find one I got on with; I've played a few Kingbasses but they seemed to sit on me strangely, although maybe it was just unfamiliarity. Still hoping to try a Streamline at some point. BTW Andy, sounds like work on the house is in trouble.... Edited January 14, 2014 by 4000 Quote
marcus bell Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 I love my Kingbass mk1 artist and I'm going to be recieving a Kingbass 2 headed next month . Safe to say they are perfect instruments for me Hope you get one very soon my friend Quote

4000 Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Good luck mate. That'll be another I need to try. ;-) Quote
