DanGriffin
I'm considering getting a 610 cab, and will be upgrading my head (Laney RB9) soon too. Maybe the Ampeg SVT610 or Ashdown ABM 610. I've heard good things and bad things about both. Any users here? Should I consider any other brands? Probably will be buying used. Right now I'm playing rock, mostly studio sessions. Thanks
discreet
I did a gig with a Markbass 610 (venue backline) and it was excellent.
0175westwood29
the ampeg 610hlf is an very nice cab, not the lightest however but thats not a concern it really is easy to move around. i used mine with a ampeg pro 6, markbass lm2 and aguilar db750. all sounded awesome yes the cab does colour, maybe a slight mid boost but has got nice lowest and if you need it a nice tweeter(i never used mine) never had any problems at all and i had to run it loud with the db750 several times no trouble was looking at getting a second but then band broke up. also secondhand these go for a steal! andy
Wooks79
I've had an Ampeg 6x10 before, and did like it. Heavy, but I found it reasonable to get around cos of the top bar and the wheels. I bought a Matamp 6x10, and preferred the sound, so sold the Ampeg on, but the Matamp isn't as easy to transport.
basshead56
Own an Ampeg and love it it. Tried an Ashdown and didn't think it was brilliant. Tried a Mesa and also loved it. Hard call but would swing toward the Ampeg for a slightly more 'muscular' sound.
Roland Rock
I love 6x10s. The just seem to be the perfect sized cab - they look brilliant, keep the head at the right height, but can fit in a car. I've played through the Ampeg HLF and thought it was very good, if not a bit undefined on the lower frequencies. However, I'll have to mention the Barefaced '69er as well. It's got a definite old school colour, yet is tight and even throughout the range. And it can be lifted with one hand (for short distances) I've only seen one come up for sale second hand though, and it didn't hang around! Handwired
I had the SVT 610 and thought it a little boomy, I replaced it with a Markbass CL 610 which was better and sat well in the mix due to it's unported design. You can do a lot better than the Ashdown ABM, however if on a budget, used, it would take some beating.
Salt on your Bass?
Surprised noones mentioned Berg yet. I have limited 610 experience - played a peg that I thought sounded huge. If I was in the market I'd definitely have bergantino on my list, budget dependant.
BruceBass3901
I've got the Ashdown ABM 610 and think it is a brilliant cab. Plenty of volume when matched with my ABM 900 or CTM 300 heads, pretty easy to move around and fits in my car easily
Marsy
I was playing the Ampeg svt610hlf and found it a bit boomy too. Since I bought the bergantino NV412 I know I won't ever want another big cab again.. Smaller than most 610's (apart from a berg 610 - coz theyre the same size!) sealed design, loves power, It's certainly the real deal! Also, you could be in luck, as there is one for sale on here I believe..
Grissle
I love Ampeg but the new Fender 6x10 Neo cabs are their best offering to date. Vintage voiced, lightweight, look great and they're efficient, what's not to love?

winterfire666
i always liked the SWR Goliath 6x10 for rock and metal and you can get em fairly cheap 2nd hand, just spotted one on this very forum. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/214937-swr-goliath-senior-6x10/page__p__2329755__hl__swr__fromsearch__1#entry2329755 the mesa stuff is epic but seriously heavy, not a 610 but this is a monster, http://basschat.co.u...-for-sale-l600/ Edited January 13, 2014 by winterfire666

grenadilla
I have the ABM 610 and it equals my old SVT cabinets for well=defined low notes. The low E is not too boomy and is plenty loud with a MAG 600 amp.
JPJ
i always liked the SWR Goliath 6x10 for rock and metal and you can get em fairly cheap 2nd hand, just spotted one on this very forum. I'm also lucky enough to have 2 Goliath 4x10's and there really isn't a lot of difference between the two rigs, and the 610 with its wheels is a lot easier to move around. I've never found a single 4x10 to be enough in a band with two guitarists using 100w valve heads and 4x12's but the 610 keeps them in check and then some :-)
steve-soar
I use a Techsoundsystems 6x10. It weighs 66lbs. 5.3 ohms and handles 2,100 watts. Needs loads of juice to make it sing but when it is in its zone, there is nothing that any other single cab can do to touch it. The low end response is incredible. The mids are its strength and the top end has a very comprehensive tweeter that does the business. dannybuoy
No mention yet of the Barefaced 69'er! The way it's designed should in theory mean it's easier to hear yourself clearly both on stage and around different points in the room too. Also it's by far the lightest option! winterfire666
buying used probably means a barefaced 69'er is out of reach, i would love to try one myself though
steve-soar
That's the one. I bought it from a local guy who in turn bought it from John. When my old singer said to me, "give us a hand putting this in the car" after I had put it outside the front door, I told him to lift it up himself. He laughed like a fool and said something like, "those Germans are nuts, how did they manage that?".

DanGriffin
Thanks guys, plenty of food for thought! never considered SWR, Markbass Mesa or Berg. Will have to check them out! It seems most of you liked the Ampeg, and they seem to have the lower resale price. Cheers!
JTUK
I'd loved Aguilar to make a DB610... but the SWR610 would be my choice. The only thing about that would be the drivers are nigh on impossible in the U.K to replace... IME.
