Waldo
I remember I went to see them when that album came out. I wasn't a fan particularly, I just went to see any band that came within range, but anyway yeah me and my girlfriend went along to see Rancid and the venue was full of 13-year-olds with their parents. So we left again. I think we ended up catching G Love & Special Sauce at a place just down the street so it wasn't so bad.
So you left because of the people in audience? markytbass
I saw the Buzzcocks recently, they were great. Pete Shelley and Steve Diggle were the only original members but they hadn't lost it. One of my fave punk bassists is Klause Flouride from the Dead Kennedys. dazco
I have loved punk for over 30 years and that bass solo, however brilliant it is, does not strike me as very "punky". Sorry. The worlds Greatest punk bassist was Stuart Morrow from New Model Army. Any fool know that. So i thought i would share my love Punk, i love the urgency i love the speed i love the way i feel when i hear a bass line played in hyper-speed with a nice palm muted guitar over the top and most of all i love the "this is what i play if you don't like it f*ck off " attitude of it all. waynepunkdude
I don't think I have ever posted this. The bass playing in awesome but it is a long long song (in 3 parts) it's what Green Day tried to replicate (badly) with St Jimmy The videos are not for the faint hearted. mark_random
My favourite player at the moment is Joey Erg from the Ergs! They've just split up but have left us two great albums and lots and lots of 7 inches. Check out them and particularly Joey's playing at http://www.myspace.com/theergs M
Russ
Can't say I have much love for most modern punk. Punk's all about an attitude, and most of these bands that supposedly play it nowadays don't have it. Punk's supposed to be all about channeling anger, the ultimate DIY ethic, doing it your way despite your limitations, fanzines, anarchy... and gobbing and pogoing, obviously. Although, to quote Mike Watt, when he was asked if he was a punk, he replied, "No... a punk's someone who gets f**ked in prison for cigarettes". I don't mind Rancid, older Green Day and a few other newer punk bands, but for me, it's still all about The Clash, Crass, UK Subs, Bad Brains, The Ramones and so on. Eight
I've always kinda liked punk (and psychobilly I lurve) but I'm really starting to get into noise punk lately. Have the pre-major label White Zombie stuff, Big Black, Helmet, early Sonic Youth etc. on my playlist at the minute.

I just think that most of these so-called punk bands who do end up playing arenas and stadiums have, by that very act, forfeited the right to call themselves punk. I acknowledge that the likes of Green Day, The Offspring, etc all came up through the ranks and paid their dues via the grassroots punk scene, but you're fooling yourself if you think any of these bands still have full creative freedom over their music. I'd much rather go and see a proper, angry punk band play at a squat than see Green Day at Wembley.

There was always the Goldsmiths Tavern in New Cross for the full punk and crusty experience too, but I think they're closing it now. I used to love it, especially the free gigs they put on there. Saw a bit of trouble in there occasionally, but never had any grief myself.
