BassBunny Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Can I please ask for you help in signing this petition if you care about live music. www.change.org/.../manchester-city-council-to-remove-our-statutory-nuisance-abatement-notice Those of you from the North West will probably know Night & Day which is an established Music Venue and Bar/Cafe. It has operated successfully for 23 years and just because 1 person, who is a new resident, has complained to Manchester Council, they have served them with a Statutory Nuisance Abatment Notice. . Night & Day is a hugely important venue in Manchester, a proving ground for local, national and international acts before they make their jump to the larger venues. The depth and quality of the bands who appear there are a credit to the owners and Manchester will be much the worse if it should close. Venues like Night & Day and Dry Bar were the vanguard for the "Northern Quarter" actually becoming a trendy (and obviously coffer-filling) night spot. The new resident moves next door to an established venue and moans about the noise. When the hell is common sense going to play out in this regard? If someone moves into a property next to an established venue, unless they're taking the mick (e.g. loud music until 2am on a week night) they shouldn't have a leg to stand on. Equally, councils need to work the opposite way around when granting new licences. It shouldn't be a formality, it should be similar to planning permission. Over 12000 people have signed this just today and if you are concerned about music venues closing down, please add your name and spread the word.. Cheers, Stuart Quote
EliasMooseblaster Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Consider it signed. The attached nicely sums up my feelings on people like the plaintiff: Quote
Skol303 Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Signed! I'll also spread the word amongst other Manchester folk. Quote
AndyTravis Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Signed it this morning - glad someone started a thread. Played 100's of gigs there, great place. Quote
keeponehandloose Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 also signed, never thought of plugging it here, well done! Quote

Mykesbass Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Done and asked a landlady friend who had this exact thing happen to her (and she lost) to share on Facebook. Quote
paul_5 Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Played there numerous times back in the day - great little venue. Shame some dickhead didn't do any research before he moved in. Prick. Quote
xilddx Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Signed and tweeted and FBed. Hope it helps. Quote
Mornats Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Signed, hope it all works out for the venue! Quote
ratman Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 I've seen this happen before and it sucks. So I've signed too. Up to 46,228 now. Quote
Thunderbird Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 why does 1 person always spoil it? anyway petition signed Quote
neepheid Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 I'm not signing this. The parties directly involved need to get down to some proper dialogue and compromise instead of the polarised, defensive nonsense that has gone on so far, of which this petition is part. Quote
bagsieblue Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Signed, Played here many, many times over the years. Great little venue. Quote
Lasermonkey Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Done. Having played there once, it would be rude not to! Quote
Big_Stu Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Has this been verified as genuine? Only reason I ask is that a similar story went round about the Robin2 in Bilston W Mids a few years ago and IIRC it turned out to be a hoax. Quote
BassBunny Posted January 16, 2014 Author Posted January 16, 2014 There is a Manchester Evening News Article about it http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/whats-on/whats-on-news/night-day-cafe-neighbour-receives-6519139 and the owners of Night & Day started the petition. Quote
