Got this baby in the afternoon yesterday, took out the round wounds that came with it, put on some lovely flats, set it up, plugged it in to test it and took it straight to my gig. It sounds just as gorgeous as it looks. I'm impressed with how well put together and finished this bass is too. Made in China, but you would never guess it if it wasn't written in the back of the headsotck. i just can't put it down now :D

Anyone out there looking for a great semi-acoustic should definitely give one of these a try.

PS I took out the pick guard because it was getting in the way of palm muting with a pick. Feels perfect now and actually looks better too.

It does have a centre block and it's heavier than you would expect. Not that it's heavy, but when you see the f-holes you automatically expect it to be very lightweight, which it isn't.

Another thing. I though I wouldn't adjust to the position of the strap button at the back of the neck, but to my surprise the bass just feels perfectly balanced with the button there. In fact, I never had a bass that felt so comfortable. It just embraces you :)

Thanks! The short scale was one of my fears too, but I think it adds a lot to the way the bass sounds and it wouldn't be the same with a long scale. I've been switching between the Coronado and my P-Bass and it doesn't take long for the brain and the hands to adjust. I did hit a couple of bum notes during the gig last night though, hehe.

Which flats have you put on it?

I've been using Thomastik Jazz Flats on my P-Bass and I love their feel, sound and versatility. Unfortunately they don't make a 30 inch short scale version of them, so I put on some Status Flats on the Coronado. They work really well for the kinda sound I'm going for with this bass, so I'm very pleased.

OK, thanks. Would the 32" Thomastiks not fit well enough with this kind of tailpiece? I've used them on other 30" scale semi-acoustics.

I thought about it, but was scared to spend that 50 quid in case it wouldn't work. I might give it a try then. Thanks!

I'm seriously thinking about getting a black Coronado and if so I'll probably try the 32" Thomastiks so I'll let you know.

And I think you're right about the 32" strings. The 30" ones are almost too short for this bass because of the tail piece.

I guess then that other flatwounds that will probably fit then are either the Pyramid Gold Beatle Bass or La Bella Beatle Bass.

The bass looks absolute fantastic! I an considering trying one. Do you have any sound examples? What kind of music are you playing with it?

Some of the gigs I'm gonna play now in the end of the month will be filmed and properly recorded. Soon I'll have something with the bass in the context of a band. With this bass I'm playing mostly pop /folk / alternative vibes, if that makes any sense.

Hi, I've had one of these on order since September in 3 tone burst and Fender and the shop reckon It's coming next week. I play flats too and I'm interested in the fit of the status strings. Ideally I go for 45-105 and I hate wrapping any part of the "speaking" length of the string round a post. So if these fit bang on I'd probably go for them.

Any and all advice gratefully received!

The 30" Status just about fit. A little bit of the black wrapping at the end of the strings were sitting on the nut slots, but I managed to rip it off a little and now the actual metal is in the slot. Not that I noticed any difference in sound, to be honest, but looking at bass like that was disturbing me. I believe that despite the 30" scale length 32" strings are a better fit for this bass because of the tail piece as discussed above.
