I've posted this on the warwick porn thread too

Any experiences of a fretless 5 string dolphin pro 1 2001ish with Bart soap bars against an 89 4 string with Bart mm + j ?

Owned the 4 for many years and may now have found a 5 for sale. Curious how the sound is with differents pickups and later manufacturing compares?

What's a fair price for a 5 like this?

Thanks Torben I had hoped the same about fretless price but its retail so not a bargain.

Can't quite see in the pic but its lined not unlined. Shame but still a beauty.

To repeat my comment in the Gear Porn thread:

I can't imagine they will be worlds apart in terms of electronics. It will likely be a very similar, if not the same, preamp. Any chance you can have a play first? As the neck profile will be somewhat different from the 89, even more so if it has a gloss finish. Will have a deeper profile and feel a good bit chunkier. Weight should be about consistent with a 5 string version of what you have.

DiMarco has a better knowledge of Lolphins than most, so hopefully he will be along to give a better answer. Value? Warwicks are all over the place at the moment, but anything under £1500 and IMO you are doing well :)

LOL! just kidding.

I owned both the 89 with bart j+hb and a broadneck fretless 91 with bart soapbars.
The 89 lacked in the lows and I always found myself dialling in the bottom end to max. I had the best midrange presence in the workd though and sounded very 'jaco' to me. Great bass!

The 91 with bart soapbars had lots more low + high end but not too much. It is much more versatile then the 89 tone wise.

By the looks of it the bass you're talking of is a custom shop order as it is lined and has bart soapbars while not being a broadneck. If I were you I'd be more then interested!

Hey DiMarco!

That's lush! Ebony board? Looks good enough to eat!
I'm having communication problems with the seller ( haha I wanna pay less and he wants more). Still trying to get confirmation on whether its a broad neck or not. At the moment it's kinda ground to a halt so we will see what happens.

It is a broadneck by the looks of it. This was mine. Expect something similar!

My long lost twin brother !!!... I'm just sayin'... If anybody sees this baby somewhere on a sale forum of sorts, PLEASE let me know !!!. A fretless 5 Pro 1 (BN) would pretty much complete my world ! :D

This bass has been in Simply Red, too. Just sayin' ...
And I sold it to someone who had been searching for a broadneck fretless Warwick for years. No regrets, I still have a Dolphin Pro1 5str. with MEC stuff on, it kills!

Hoping you can get a good deal on that fretless Dazed, keeping fingers crossed for ya.

Cheers, Marco
