Marc1t
Hi just joined Basschat, Have I left it far too late to take up a musical instrument? Im 50 years old feet firmly on the ground not having a mid life crisis, have no previous musical experience cant read music but iv learnt a bit from a few books got some gear Us Fender Jazz deluxe far too good for me & a bass amp a very complicated drum machine with a few basic patterns a few leads tuner & one or two books, so iv got the gear but no idea. hopefully you lot will guide me to musical excellence & within a few days ill be gigging with Eric Clapton, Elton John & Barry Manillow? well perhaps not Barry Manilow! or in a few day? I have a wide taste in music except Barry manillow & favour rock pop, but ware to go from here? Edited January 18, 2014 by Marc1t
jgmh315
Hi, I started playing bass in May last year, I'm 48. Now playing along to lots of rock classics from my younger days. Practice, practice, practice.
BassTractor
Hey Marc1t, Welcome! We'll have you gigging with Manilow in no time. Elton John may take a few weeks, as this Bissonette bloke seems up to the job for the time being. As to your question, as a teacher I have good experience with pupils starting at 50. Not so with pupils starting at 70, so if that is anything to go by you made the jump in time. Remember to not be overzealous, and to enjoy your time with the instrument. But get yourself a teacher, if only between now and summer. It will save you an incredible amount of time. Also, you don't want to ruin your fingers either. Good luck! Enjoy BC. bert
