iiipopes
The body is described as "American ash." This could be what we call northern ash, which is what American baseball bats are made out of. It is extremely heavy, and we found out forty years ago it does not make a good instrument body because it is too heavy to wear for a full gig. I'll pass. rodma
So, I opted for the black 4 string acoustic (fretted) and it is the opposite of a decoration, since the only faults are in the finish. The lacquer or whatever it is, is a wee bit rough in a couple of wee spots around the connection with the neck and is a wee bit thin in one place on the headstock, so the wood is shining through a tiny bit if you look really closely. Not bad for 44 sheets

fusdepilee
I think I will grab a fretted acoustic now as well as the fretless one I received is fantastic. £45 is just ridiculous!
Annoying Twit
£42 for a four string fretless. And I have some review credit that would cover the postage... http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_b_30_nt_fl_acoustic_ba_deko.htm
kodiakblair
Go for it AT The review credit/free postage sweetens the deal but more importantly I was watching some youtube videos of these today and they came off very good. Add in the fact that you've held off from buying for a good while so you've given this a lot of thought. Reward yourself my friend and lets hope yours is like the rest ie no real issues KB
Annoying Twit
I am thinking about it very carefully. I could buy the bass and a set of Fender flatwound strings for about £57 total.

Fans of BBOT bridges might like to know the bridge metal is a respectable 2.75mm thick. Chrome plating looks excellent. My Fender and Squire are a little under 2mm thick. Might put the bridge on my P

It doesn't show up in the category 'Decorative Guitars and Basses' even though the listing for the p-bass puts it in that category. There might be more 'decorative' basses that aren't easily found. DaveFry
£42 for a four string fretless. http://www.thomann.d...tic_ba_deko.htm
I ordered one of these on Sunday . Tracking says it has reached Cologone already . The curious thing is that the page shows they ( the Deko £42 ones ) are still available . Further research shows the regular ones are £115 ( http://www.thomann.d...akustikbass.htm ) , there is one B-stock in stock for £97 ( http://www.thomann.d..._ba_b_stock.htm ) , and three Decoration-only left ( presumably after mine ) for £42 . I wonder what the differences are . Curious .... Of course I'll report back when it arrives .
rodma
Probably find the b stock one is in worse condition Good luck and look forward to hearing how you get on. Imagine an acoustic act consisting entirely of aging has beens and never weres all plugging away on decor basses, none even attempting the guitar pays to ensure long silences . I can't think of a more beautiful image
kodiakblair
I ordered £20 P bass on Sunday and cause I was paying postage got a 4 string acoustic and a BDI21. 114 euros all told. Cause it was Sunday the order wasn't processed till Monday morning and they arrived by 1pm today so say 52-54 hours that's fast service. I've these Roto dropzone strings I fancy trying, 85 - 175, as it'll require filing the nut and boring out the bridge a cheap bass was needed. The deko P bass fit the bill and probably cost the same as a nut and bridge. No sharp frets, but a slight bow in the neck and of the 3 pieces making the body the middle one is a wee bit thinner so it's noticable from the back. Apart from that it's all good. I'll set the neck and tackle the surgery tomorrow. The acoustic, well it's big and it's loud the only flaws I've noticed are a couple of small chips round the binding and a wee hollow on the back, like when you slip with a plane down wood, triangle about 1/2 inch by inch and 1/2. Not had time to plug it in yet Get the camera charged and post some pics tomorrow.
Skol303
I've come close to pulling the trigger on the 5 string fretless acoustic more than once this week. And it's only Wednesday. I blame you all!!
rmcki
I've bought a 5 string fretless, arrived today. 2 small bashes on the back, that's it. Everything else is fine. Neck looked really dry so I'm putting Lemmon oil on it. Well worth the money.
Annoying Twit
*sigh* Deko fretless acoustic bass ordered. I went for the four string as it's meant to be a cheap bass for me to experiment with fretless on. I find I tend to switch between four string basses and my seven string most of the time, finding the five and six string basses a bit neither here nor there. Hence I bought the four string. I'll see what I have when it arrives.
