Coldflows
Did you get an "out for delivery" email, or did it just turn up?
Just turned up, the tracking doesn't seem to work brilliantly outside of Germany. This bass is great fun. The neck is wide but not unplayable. So does that mean if a batch of basses comes in and they pick up the only unlucky bass they waste the lot and stamp them dekos? All I can find wrong with this is two tiny lines in the paintjob. It's a £100 bass at full price I can't understand how that little can be considered unplayable!
Annoying Twit
Happy new bass day Coldflows. Happy new bass day Bartleby, for when you finally get your hands on it. I just visually compared my PJ5 to my Rockbass Streamer Standard V, and the necks look to be about the same width. The PJ5's neck is quite a bit narrower than my Harley Benton BZ7000. BassBunny
Acoustic 5er is still up there... I'm gutted I missed the fretless 4; I hadn't even considered such a weirdly wonderful thing might exist, and GASed hard when I saw the 'sold out' label... Did anyone on here snag it?
Just sprung for the 5 String Koo Stick. Bonus is I managed to order a couple of K&M wall hangers super cheap at the same time. Andytre
Some new deko just popped up but are showing to me as 'on request' that's a new one, also there is a PJ5
Annoying Twit
DEKOS! http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_pj_5_htr_deluxe_series_deko.htm PJ5. That's a few pounds cheaper than mine was. What does Availability - on request mean? Two acoustic guitars too.
Andytre
just purchased the shorty P (i like the idea of a portable bass for pittence), and have got the order conformation email, so know idea why there 'on request' as you can just straight up order them
bartelby
If I look at the "block" view there's only 4 items listed. Switch to "list" view and there's 7 items... And the mobile site still shows old "out of stock" items. EDIT: My PJ5 should be delivered today... Edited June 30, 2015 by bartelby
bartelby
Apparently it has arrived, just... The bottom of the shipping carton was open and the PF driver didn't notice. The Guitar box and airpocket packing fell out as he put it down. I now have to wait 6 hours until I get home...
kodiakblair
So you have the joy of popping around 6 metre of airbags when you get home Don't envy you the next 6 hours.
Once I've checked it out there'll be a thread in the Recycling bit of the marketplace. I have 2 of the massive shipping cartons now, and all the airbags, and 1 bass box... I'm now trying to find lots of difficult work to distract me for 5 1/2 hours...
yorks5stringer
Given the earlier post about how Thomann "do" their Decos, maybe the "On Request" means you are putting your name down for one when they become available or as has been said by Andytre , it's just a smokescreen? A PJ for £40 inc postage is very tempting even though I had one while ago and sold it..! Edited June 30, 2015 by yorks5stringer
BassBunny
The one I bought last night is still featured on the website, so I guess they must have a few. It'll be interesting to see if it has the "dink" featured in the pictures.
yorks5stringer
FIO Just stumbled across this, apologies if it is already known... The Harley Benton basses are made by a company called Saein Musical Instrument Co., who have factories in both Korea and China. Saein was established in 1991 and in 1992 began manufacturing the Epiphone guitars for Gibson. They won "The Best Quality of the Year" award, presented by Gibson in 1998 and 1999. Saein currently are the OEM vendor for Ibanez and Peavey.
Annoying Twit
A number of their earlier basses looked exactly like some Shine (Saein) basses. E.g. the previous six string. However, I'm not convinced that all their instruments are made by Saein. Are there any really robust sources (e.g. Thomann saying it's so) to say that all Harley Bentons are Shines? The BZ range look a lot like the instruments made by another Korean factory, though I can't remember which one now.
Myke
If a natural 4 string acoustic bass comes up it's mine! A couple of fivers have been up the last few days and some black 4 stringers! Don't know if I need it but for that price it's not to be sniffed at!
bartelby
Left work a bit early... Right out the box it's pretty good. The pickup heights are all over the shop and the truss rod needs a tweak. The nut could do with some attention, but it's more than playable.
kodiakblair
So bearing in mind it's " Decoration only not playable " are you pleased ?
For £41 it's the most beautiful bass ever made... Now I need to find some things that use a 5 string to play to get used to it. I also need to remember the lowest string ain't an E anymore...
Andytre
I bought one for around £80 and thought it was the bargain of the century, if only I'd of waited! haha
kodiakblair
Even at £80 it's a great deal Andy, was around £64 for my B-stock P/J 4. With it's bent tuners it's still a good bass (currently sporting Chromes ).
CamdenRob
Got home today from a few days away and the pj4 was waiting for me... In the same delightful colour scheme as above. More tomorrow but two initial impressions are; 1) how on earth one small dent on the back makes this "unplayable" I don't know 2) at full price this would have been astonishing value... It really does sound pretty good! I'll do some audio samples when I get a chance. ... By God it's ugly though.
