Thanks to whoever bought the fretless acoustic 5. I had it in my shopping cart and was hovering.. hovering...hovering over the button to buy it. Thanks for saving me from myself.

Another one will be along soon. There have been quite a few acoustics recently.

T'was asleep. I've seen it now, and the white progressive is still there. The price at £40 seems a bit high for a deko, as it's only £104 for the normal one. Usually it's about 1/3 of the full price?

Has the 5 string acoustic black fretted bass been mentioned in this thread? http://www.thomann.d...bass_s_deko.htm

The Black one I got this week was £36, so just a little cheaper.

There's also one of the beat basses on the Mobile site

Tempted by the beatbass ... but not yet. I had previously only played the Epiphone viola bass, and a not very well set up example of the cheapest Hofner version. I played another cheapie Hofher on Monday in a shop that sets up their instruments, and it felt quite decent. But do I need another four string fretted bass?

I have some GAS for the HB T-Bird. I don't know why, perhaps because I enjoyed my brief trial of Norris's Gibson T-Bird.

I'm not using my deko tracking program this week, as using it at various free wifi locations (e.g. on coaches) with off-again on-again connectivity was too annoying as it would suddenly announce that everything was gone and then announce that it was all back again.

Loads of decos up today, including black 4 and 5 string acoustic basses, the 4 string Prog and the Uke Bass

My 4 string Progressive Deko has arrived after 4 working days. Still trying to figure out why it is a deko. Slight scuff on the edge below the controls, small dent under the paint at one of the neck bolts. Pups and active controls not very exciting but I'll wait for a string change first. Relief a bit too much, but no surprise after correct string tension. Was expecting some fret buzz, but it plays very well., frets are well finished. Nut depth is fine. Can't believe the neck is not butter. The finish on the neck is even thinner that HBs usual thin. Rosewood fretboard is quite thick. I wonder what wood they use for this? seems to have been stained although to a better finish than the shorty.

I got one of those a couple of weeks back and I couldn;t work out why it was a deco either... The best I could come up with was that the fretboard looked a bit grey and lifeless, just like it needed a good oiling so maybe they rejected it on cosmetic grounds.

I'd have been happy with it if i'd paid full price to be honest.

I don't think we're ever going to find out why these instruments are described as 'dekos'. Back to watching the list to see what turns up. Interesting to note that there is now some form of acoustic bass available pretty much all the time, and as mentioned the progressive basses are frequently available. I don't think I've seen the uke basses hang around for this much time before. I can't be bothered trawling through my log files to check, however :)
