kodiakblair Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 Maybe anyone who wants one should go through the check out, they might get lucky and snag one as they appear. Quote
CamdenRob Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 (edited) If a pb shorty comes up we should group buy it for the young lady just starting out on the wheelchair suitable basses thread... Edited July 31, 2015 by CamdenRob Quote
Annoying Twit Posted July 31, 2015 Author Posted July 31, 2015 http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_b_450_black_progressiv_deko.htm Dekos are going up and immediately down again all the time. I don't know what's going on. Here's a progressive bass 'on request'. Quote
kodiakblair Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 I was just thinking as Thomann scrap whole consignments due to X amount of basses failing spot checks the " on request " could be basses from batches nearly scrapping levels. Probably no explaining that right Quote
pfretrock Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 Ooooops.... just requested a B 450, how the hell did that happen? 42mm nut is just my size, now I have to wait..... Quote
pfretrock Posted August 1, 2015 Posted August 1, 2015 Shipping confirmed, did not think they worked at weekends. Still available! Quote

Annoying Twit Posted August 2, 2015 Author Posted August 2, 2015 (edited) T'was asleep. I've seen it now, and the white progressive is still there. The price at £40 seems a bit high for a deko, as it's only £104 for the normal one. Usually it's about 1/3 of the full price? Has the 5 string acoustic black fretted bass been mentioned in this thread? Andytre Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 There's also one of the beat basses on the Mobile site https://m.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_beatbass_vs_vintage_se_deko.htm?o=9&ref=mal_a_9&search=1438773262 Quote

I had previously only played the Epiphone viola bass, and a not very well set up example of the cheapest Hofner version. I played another cheapie Hofher on Monday in a shop that sets up their instruments, and it felt quite decent. But do I need another four string fretted bass? I have some GAS for the HB T-Bird. I don't know why, perhaps because I enjoyed my brief trial of Norris's Gibson T-Bird. I'm not using my deko tracking program this week, as using it at various free wifi locations (e.g. on coaches) with off-again on-again connectivity was too annoying as it would suddenly announce that everything was gone and then announce that it was all back again. kodiakblair Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Weird. I put a Beat bass in the basket on the mobile site but it doesn't transfer to desktop.Signed in on both sites. Which one do I believe though. No Beat bass showing on desktop version. Quote
Andytre Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 (edited) Beat bass is now showing sold out on the mobile site Edit: and now showing as on request again :s Edited August 5, 2015 by Andytre Quote
Annoying Twit Posted August 5, 2015 Author Posted August 5, 2015 I thought that someone further up had bought a bass from the mobile site that wasn't on the main site. Quote
kodiakblair Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Never went through with the Beat bass buy. I was after the PB-50 for the body but they were sold out. I won't be waiting on another deko though as £70 isn't a deadly price and this was the first time this year the 50 has been listed. Quote
yorks5stringer Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 (edited) Loads of decos up today, including black 4 and 5 string acoustic basses, the 4 string Prog and the Uke Bass http://www.thomann.d...ic_bassdeko.htm http://www.thomann.d...bass_s_deko.htm Edited August 6, 2015 by yorks5stringer Quote
Andytre Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 Seems to be a lot of 4 and 5 string progs up lately Quote
pfretrock Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 My 4 string Progressive Deko has arrived after 4 working days. Still trying to figure out why it is a deko. Slight scuff on the edge below the controls, small dent under the paint at one of the neck bolts. Pups and active controls not very exciting but I'll wait for a string change first. Relief a bit too much, but no surprise after correct string tension. Was expecting some fret buzz, but it plays very well., frets are well finished. Nut depth is fine. Can't believe the neck is not butter. The finish on the neck is even thinner that HBs usual thin. Rosewood fretboard is quite thick. I wonder what wood they use for this? seems to have been stained although to a better finish than the shorty. Quote
I got one of those a couple of weeks back and I couldn;t work out why it was a deco either... The best I could come up with was that the fretboard looked a bit grey and lifeless, just like it needed a good oiling so maybe they rejected it on cosmetic grounds. I'd have been happy with it if i'd paid full price to be honest. Quote
Annoying Twit Posted August 7, 2015 Author Posted August 7, 2015 (edited) I don't think we're ever going to find out why these instruments are described as 'dekos'. Back to watching the list to see what turns up. Interesting to note that there is now some form of acoustic bass available pretty much all the time, and as mentioned the progressive basses are frequently available. I don't think I've seen the uke basses hang around for this much time before. I can't be bothered trawling through my log files to check, however Edited August 7, 2015 by Annoying Twit Quote
