De-fretted it's 3.9 kg on the bathroom scales and the nut is 45mm wide: B-E is 0.9cm, E-A 0.9cm, A-D 1cm and D-G 1 cm assuming you use Nylon Flats. It does not feel heavy and the body is quite contoured. At the Bridge the string spacing is between 1.6 cm and 1.8 cm depending on which strings!

H
Thanks, unfortunately that string spacing is too wide for me, the hunt will have to continue elsewhere.

There's a Startone now up on the main page, but clicking through shows it as out of stock. The CG300CE similar, on the list but sold out. CG200 still available. http://www.thomann.d...200_bk_deko.htm EDIT: The full price of the CG200 is only £27.49!!

Classical guitars seem quite popular here. Is that because of the common use of fingers between basses and classical? I still feel I want to wait until I find if the Santos series models return.

BTW: Too lazy to check who was interested in a deko progressive six string, but here is an old (Shine) style six string bass on Ebay with a reasonable starting price. I started on a classical guitar (to be strictly accurate, my brother's classical guitar) before moving to electric and then bass. I do have a couple of steel-strung acoustics in the house but not a nylon-strung one so it would add to the sounds I have available, if I ever get off my arse and start recording stuff properly.

Congratulations.

I started on classical guitar because my father said that he would only pay for instruments and lessons if it were classical. Later on he did buy me a nice electric bass guitar ('77 Ibanez Artist -if only I had it now :) ) and amplifier.

Good to see you're getting one (almost certainly).

It's in Koln now, so I shan't start tapping my fingers just yet.

My PB-20 is stuck in Koln too... it's been over taken by a JB-75 I ordered two days later and that has apperantly been delivered to a random neighbour, so if I can find it it'll be an NBD :)

Another 75 Jazz arrived today.

OK first things first... I've come to expect these deckos to be pretty much flawless, my last three even turned up in tune.

Out of the box, this one was actually unplayable. back bow in the neck which choked the strings. So I assumed that the truss rod must be knackered... but it wasn't. Took three full turns and I had to lower the saddles about a centimeter afterwards but it now has a fantastic action.

Routing is a bit rough around the edges but again... it sounds great.

Well done Myke. And congratulations Rob on another fine jazz bass.

Here's a picture showing one of the nodules my bass uke had on the D string

That one's by the 7th and another is on the 12th. I've got a set of D'Addario Nyltech strings on the way and hopefully
all will be good.Tell you what ,I found frets difficult on the 1st bass uke, with the fretless I'm struggling big time :D

Posted (edited)

@KB I'm not familiar with the silicone (+ similar strings) and had never heard of nodules before. I wonder if they can be sliced off, or whether there is risk of making things even worse.

@Myke Good luck for a rapid receipt of a faultless (minus D stamp) deko.

The more I look at the photos of CamdenRob's bass, the more it looks to me every bit as good as the very high spec Jazz basses. Do other people's natural l'75 Jazz basses look that good in real life? Is that a one piece body? I went onto photo bucket and looked at the photos in higher resolution, and I can't see a join.
