kodiakblair Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 Glad to hear your HTR is all good BassBunny. There's a fella in the " cheap 5 string " thread would like to hear your thoughts on it Quote
ben4343 Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 Les Paul-a-like on the main site, looks rather attractive... http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_sc_custom_lemon_flame_deko.htm Quote
Annoying Twit Posted January 4, 2016 Author Posted January 4, 2016 I was off doing stuff - it was gone before I got back. Actually buying a Les Paul copy is I think still the gold standard in terms of difficulty of buying a deko. The new price for that is £130. The new Les Pauls seem to be similar to the Vintage (brand) LP copies. If this is similar to the Vintage Lemon Drop, then £130 is a bargain IMHO. Even if it doesn't have any relic-ing. Quote
yorks5stringer Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016
My PJ5 HTR arrived a couple of days ago. Can't see anything wrong with it other than a slight blemish under the laquer. Reserved judgement until I could try it at last nights gig. Original plan was that I was only getting it for the body and neck but after a quick noodle post-soundcheck, change of plan. It is quiet as a mouse, it plays great and sounds fantastic. The "pimping" plan was going to involve, shielding cavity (no need), and just about changing everything. New plan is Wilkinson Vintage bridge and CTS pots, Switchcraft jack and Bobs your Whatsit. I am staggered at the pickups, they sound immense. I was switching from my Carvin/Marlleaux 5 er with a Glockenklang pre-amp to the PJ5 and output wise they are very comparable. Tuners are solid and work well. That might be the only other area that I look at in the future. Happy Bunny.
I'd budget for a new scratchplate. My acid thumb wore away the faux tort on mine in a couple of months. I guess the alternative is to work on your 'floating thumb' technique! Quote

Annoying Twit Posted January 5, 2016 Author Posted January 5, 2016 (edited) Rosewood Jazz. I haven't seen one of these as a deko before. Much more expensive than a '75. Annoying Twit Posted January 11, 2016 Author Posted January 11, 2016 Was anyone watching this morning? There was a TE-80 "Prince" style telecaster guitar and a left handed P-Bass. Both sold now. Quote
bartelby Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 I saw the Tele when it first popped up Quote

I'd buy it if I didn't already have a cheapo acoustic bass. Quote
mr zed Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 My white Harley Benton B550 Progressive arrived just before Christmas. Needed a truss rod tweak and now all is good. I have put Schaller Straplocks on and made a scratchplate (which I think improves the looks). Cost so far is £70. Plays nicely and sound great in both passive & active. Very happy. kodiakblair Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 Mr Zed That's fantastic, scratchplate was a brilliant idea and brings the bass to life visually. Does anybody believe when you say it was £70 all in ? Answers somewhere between " Aye right !! " and " F... off " most likely. Congratulations on a stunning bass. Quote
Hugh971 Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 Wow, that looks great with the scratch plate. Completely changes the look. Hugh Quote
Thanks Kodiakblair - I'm really pleased with the way this has turned out. The bass needed something to break up the white and I was torn between black or tortie for the plate. My wife insisted that black was the right choice so I bowed to her better judgement. Ohhh.... and yes, you're absolutely right, no one can believe what this cost. Quote
Annoying Twit Posted January 12, 2016 Author Posted January 12, 2016 (edited) Dekos turning up at about 10am on weekdays doesn't work for me. I saw the 50s' P after it had already gone. I hope someone got one: bargain! Loving the scratchplate on Zed's progressive bass! I still want one of these: http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_santos_series_c_40sce_nt.htm Maybe there will be some dekos when they come back in stock. Coldflows Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 (edited) Mr Zed, that has to be the first progressive Harley Benton I would even think of picking up. They should use that style of scratchplate on all of them! Edited January 13, 2016 by Coldflows Quote
