chrismuzz Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 That is absolutely gorgeous work on the body. Well done!! Quote
Truckstop Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 Terrific job! Stylish, classy, vintage; a great look! Hate it when people put up photos of their great work; makes everything I attempt look really ordinary and plain! Truckstop Quote
Mr Anthony Posted March 9, 2014 Posted March 9, 2014 That looks absolutely great! Nice one. Much better than how it looked before What did you use to paint it, if you don't mind me asking? Quote
Andyjr1515 Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Yes - stunning result. Sooooo much better than the original! Quote
Maude Posted March 10, 2014 Author Posted March 10, 2014
That looks absolutely great! Nice one. Much better than how it looked before What did you use to paint it, if you don't mind me asking?
It's 2K acrylic car paint which is pretty much the same as the poly finishes on most basses but not as thick/dense. Automotive paints have pretty much been the same as guitar finishes through time. Early on it was nitro cellulose lacquer, the car industry called it cellulose, the guitar industry calls it nitro (cos we all want to be Americans ) , then it went to acrylics, polyesters and polyurethanes which are all very similar. The very old Fender custom colours were actually car paints apparently, which would have been cellulose back then. I'm sure I read somewhere that PRS use DuPont car lacquers for their guitars. It's quick drying and tough as hell compared to "nitro" which doesn't have all the properties I've heard folks claim. Oh yeah, and polishes up a treat . Quote

Mr Anthony Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 Ah cool, nice one! Cheers for the info. I'll look it up. Seems like it went really well for you, so nice job! Quote
Muzz Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 That's fantastic - I've a long-term, low-level GAS for a Variax which I can transplant into a better/different bass, but this is such a good job, I'm rethinking... Quote
yorks5stringer Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 (edited) Was thinking that by putting on Black Tapewounds, everything would sound like that but actually the different modelled sounds will transform the Tapewound sound to P Bass, Jazz Bass, Fretless Bass etc...won't they? +1 on the detail for the thumb rest, at first I thought it was clear Perspex but realise you've coloured it to match the different surfaces it sits on. I put flats on mine and it made no discernible difference. the processor overrides it. Quote
Maude Posted October 17, 2015 Author Posted October 17, 2015 Just realised I never updated this with completed pictures. The only one I have at the moment is this one of me in our rehearsal room, don't know why it's black and white, guitarist thinking he's some sort of artist I suppose Quote
Cameronj279 Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 Not normally my style of bass but that's really nice. great job! Quote
ezbass Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 I like the way the retro vibe disguises the techno beast within. Good work sir. Quote
