Hutton
I'm trying to find out what bass the guy with Morcheeba is playing. He appears with the bass briefly at about 1:18 into the clip. I can't read the name on the headstock but thought someone here would recognise the bass. Thanks! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XwFoVdNCmDU
Ou7shined
It has shades of Sadowskyness about it.... but I don't think it actually is.
throwoff
Looks to be 'Luthier' built. I had a flick through the other videos, appears to be a neck thru with a lovely top?
LeftyJ
I don't know, but there are two more videos from their appearance in Later with Jools Holland on Youtube (Rome Wasn't Built in One Day and Be Yourself) which feature the bass more prominently.
Why didn't you post one of those then? OK, watched the other two clips & still can't get a decent look at the bass, other than it seems to have quite a pronounced hook shape on the headstock - it's some kind of generic Super Jazz of which there are hundreds, if not thousands, of different types. HowieBass
Looking at Sadowsky 5 string basses online and it's definitely got the right tuning peg arrangement (4 over 1) and the logo is in the same place too, bridge looks rectangular which I think means it can't be a Lakland. BassBunny
A Moon? Same in a line control arrangement but can't see if the neck pickup is slanted or not.
throwoff
SANDBERG!! Wierd slightly rounded bridge, slight beak to the headstock, angled retainer....

throwoff
That vids 2000 but the bass could be anything from 86 onwards. I know Sandy were more a custom shop at first but the bridge and stock match up
LeftyJ
My first thought was Sandberg too, but the headstock doesn't match. The 'hook' bit is much more pronounced on this one. Tough one, could be anything! I was also thinking about Bacchus or Atelier Z for a moment, but most Atelier Z basses with fancy tops have a different 3+2 headstock design. chaypup
It's a Moon isn't it? chaypup
Hmmm, I dunno, pickups are wrong for a TM5 as is the logo, also the video is from 2000 were TM5's being made then? The headstock looks wromg for a Moon. Logo possibly suggests a Marleaux? LeftyJ
I thought of SEI earlier on, and now I'm certain. Compare it to this one (with a bolt-on neck though) at the Bass Gallery: http://www.thebassga...e=Bass%20Guitar Looks very similar, same headstock shape and print too. RhysP
Is it me or does the lower cutaway on our mystery bass look a lot deeper & wider than usual for a J style bass?

matski
If you use Twitter, ask the man himself: https://twitter.com/SteveGordon2 I had a good chat with him once at a gig - he's married to Skye who is Morcheeba's singer - lovely chap and very friendly. This was back in the days when Myspace was popular, I was well cheeky and basically sent Skye a message saying "I'm skint, can you put me on your guest list" and Steve sorted it out for me. Result!
