Ampmaker SE5A Hand wired, valve combo £400+p&p

Recommended Posts

Hi after being messed around on ebay for the second time around with this thought I would offer it here, will swap for jap precision bass JV pref but here,s description as per ebay listing ( I did not build this by the way so Im no good on how and why questions !!

Hand wired "boutique" guitar combo

Single ended, ecc83, el84 all hand wired, turret board component mounting.

based on the excellent Ampmaker SE5 chassis look here for full details & sound clips etc... http://www.ampmaker.com/index.asp

This amp was upgraded with a Mullard ecc83 pre amp valve that really brings out the best in this amp's already great tone & musicallity & it is I feel a match for any of the brand name boutique amps that are so popular now (but not in the selling price)

These amps attract consistently excellent reviews:- http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews...maker/SE5a/10/1

This amp is fully loaded with the "plexi" style panels front & rear & vintage style "chicken head" control knobs. All components are high quality including the custom designed transformers, ceramic valve bases, turret board wiring with clear, uncluttered chassis for easy servicing/upgrading if required.

Top panel controls/inputs are :- input jack, mains on/off, standby on/off, gain, bass, mid, treble, master vol.

Rear panel controls :- IEC mains input, speaker jack x 2 8ohm, 16ohm.

What does it sound like ? A cross between a early vox AC 15/30 & a Marshall JTM t smooth & sweet at lowish volumes turning into a raunchy rocker when driven hard that completely belies it's "only" 5 watt output. A listen to the sound files on the Ampmaker site will give an idea of what I mean.

Connect up to a good 4x12 cabinet, turn up the gain & vol to max to get the valves working hard & just watch the faces of those watching when you drop into the conversation a phrase like "not bad for a 5 watter then ?"

Fitted into a professionally made deluxe unmarked cabinet finished in a very cool looking "ox blood" tolex with contrasting gold vents & speaker grills this amp looks as good as any of the high priced alternatives available today (just waiting to be personalised with your own name plate/badge)

I have a two speakers for this amp

A:- a vintage 12"wharfdale that has a sweet, deep melodic sound, ideal for Country/Jazz/Shadows/Blues style of music

B:- a 12" Celestion neo Century speaker that is mega loud (103db efficiency) more suited to rock with it's spectaculer dynamics & energy

The winning bidder gets both

ISizes are W22", H20" & D11" weight 25kg also included is a spare set of valves
