jazzyvee
Fantastic player, I had a chat with him after a gig he did with the Impossible Gentlemen. He's a really nice bloke too. Jazzyvee

Jazzyvee [/quote] Ah Mike (Walker) is a very good friend, done loads of playing with him, he was very excited to tell me Steve was doing his gig, and then Steve Rodby too... Lucky Mike although fully deserving of the company being a world class player himself!
jakenewmanbass
In fact Steve Swallow is one of my favourite bass soloists, as he eschews chops in favour of beautiful simplicity. For that he gets my vote, more musician than gymnast.
Beer of the Bass
I do enjoy his playing, though I haven't always been a massive fan of his tone. Having said that, I liked his sound much better on this clip from 2013 than some of the other material I've heard. Not a trace of noodling either, which is great. And Carla Bley is always awesome! Hector
His playing on this song is something I keep coming back to (and some of the faces are worth a chuckle too....). Solo at 2.10 is very pretty. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPhJn6pz6Fg
Bilbo
I approached Steve about writing his biography. Someone else was already doing it so I lucked out but his email was lovely. A true gentleman. I have been a fan for years and some of my favourite bass solos are his.

Bilbo
Swallow's solo on 'Alfie' from John Scofield's 'En Route' cd is one of the most beautiful solos ever played on a bass and 'Shoe Dog', off 'This Meets That' is another absolute gem. Don't forget what a monster composer he is as well.

Bilbo
I am sitting here listening to Swallow (with Carla Bley and Andy Sheppard) and he makes me want to get a five string fretted bass (E-C) and play like Jim Hall.
yorks5stringer
I've watched him play on Schofield's Chicken Dog when I was learning it: he has a unique technique with his right hand and fingers
